Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes
Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes
THE DOUBLE OLIVIER AWARD-WINNING SMASH HIT RETURNS
A sell-out for its world premiere in 2016, Matthew Bourne’s triumphant adaptation of the legendary film returns to London, having won two Olivier Awards and dazzled audiences across the UK and the USA.
The Red Shoes is a tale of obsession, possession and one girl's dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance but her ambitions become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion.
Set to the achingly romantic music of golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann, The Red Shoes is orchestrated by Terry Davies and played live by the New Adventures Orchestra, with cinematic designs by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Paule Constable and sound by Paul Groothuis.
With Adam Cooper, returning to New Adventures after more than 20 years, and Ashley Shaw, and Dominic North, Liam Mower, Michela Meazza, Glenn Graham and Cordelia Braithwaite set to revive their acclaimed original roles, this intoxicating drama will dazzle your senses and break your heart.

Marvellous show, dancing was amazing although certain dances didn’t seem to have anything to do with Red Shoes. Good seats ,spoilt by the woman in front moving her head all the time and sitting forward, Not your fault!

Musically tight, visually stunning with complete attention to detail made last night's performance at Sadler's Wells on of the most memorable experiences for a very long time. Even the bells in the churchtower were ringing, the sets were beautifully designed and the choreography excellent. Beautiful and moving from start to finish.

I loved the movie The Red Shoes, so I wasn't sure what to expect from the ballet. What Matthew Bourne and the performers have done is nothing less than breathtaking. I didn't have the best seat and I was still enchanted. I would not hesitate to see this again and again.

The purpose of my visit was to catch up with a friend who is in the cast and is volunteering with koalas in Australia and decided to travel to Sadlers Wells to see the performance. It was a memorable experience and loved the performance.

Matthew Bourne does not disappoint in this imaginatively set interpretation of the classic film The Red Shoes. Set design, costumes, humour and, of course, the talent of his company come together for a fabulous evening of dance. Special mention for the wonderful score, orchestra and conductor for the wonderful music and to the two dancers who played the Egyptian vaudeville act. 2nd time I’ve seen this.

Av truly wonderful performance in every aspect of its production. The dancers were superbly skilled and conveyed the story beautifully. They were graceful, athletic, fun and flawless in their dancing. The range of styles of dance, the inclusion of paired men dancing romantically and the way in which the wearer of the red shoes conveyed the idea of the shoes being in control of her were all a joy. The costumes were spectacular and accentuated the beauty and natural flow of the dance. The scenery was cleverly crafted too. All in all, another Bourne success.

Superb production, evening started with a curtain raiser by young dancers who performed amazingly, Red Shoes was amazing, the scenic effects re the revolving pros arch was awesome, the ensemble dancers remarkable, energy and enjoyment obvious, lead dancer was taken ill however the young understudy was impressive and delivered a fantastic performance. I throughly enjoyed the show and will definitely recommend to others. Congratulations to all involved, thank you.

Just been to see the enchanting ballet, #TheRedShoes, produced by Matthew Bourne. Took all our girls. What a dazzling spectacle on the siren call of a passion in life (fetishised in the red shoes) and what one is prepared to sacrifice for that calling....

Probably the most exquisite ballet I’ve ever been lucky enough to see. Every tiny detail is so perfect. I took my 11 year old daughter and she loved it just as much; a beautiful mix of funny with some chutzpah as well as deeply moving. The production values are off the scale, the aesthetic, costumes, sets... and the talent of all elements is genuinely moving in themselves. I wish I could go again.

Right from the first moments the pace was breathtaking. The set was very clever, moving the action from place to place .. the moving proscenium was a brilliant idea. Excellent dancing by every member of the relatively small cast .. in all: a fantastic show! I hope it might soon be available at cinemas so that we can see the dancing in closeup

The Red Shoes has got to be the most slickly staged production ever mounted in the UK. There isn't a second that's not carefully considered - from the very dynamic automated Set Proscenium to the changeover between scenes and the interaction of the cast, the music and the lighting. It's amazing!
