CLOSE TO YOU The Burt Bacharach Musical
CLOSE TO YOU The Burt Bacharach Musical
Following a sensational season in New York and a sold-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, the phenomenal Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined now transfers to London’s West End.
Endorsed by Burt Bacharach himself, Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined is a vibrant celebration of Bacharach’s beloved songbook. First opening at the New York Theatre Workshop, this production was welcomed by standing ovations and rave reviews and went on to become the theatre’s longest-running show.
Led by exciting composer and performer Kyle Riabko, directed by Olivier-Award winning director Steven Hoggett (Once, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time) and featuring an incredible group of young musicians, this celebrated show presents electrifying re-interpretations of thirty Bacharach favourites. Ingeniously blending the new and the old, Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined will introduce a new generation to Bacharach’s extraordinary body of work and will give those already devoted to the songster a wonderful opportunity to rediscover classic such as “I Say A Little Prayer”, “Walk On By” and “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.”
Playing at the Criterion Theatre from October, book your Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined tickets today.

This proved to be a fantastic afternoons entertainment. The young musicians were brilliant. There interpretation of Mr Bacharachs songs was truly unique and original. Hope they release a soundtrack of this show as I'm sure there will be a lot of interest.

My husband and I absolutely loved this show! We especially loved how the original Bacharach songs had been 'rocked up'. Would definitely recommend anyone to go and see this show.

Slightly disappointing in that the music was too jazzed up for us, too rock! Were expecting more original content.

No story, love the music but the modern twist did not work shame thought it would be more like the Carol King story which was excellent.

This was a profound disappointment. Frankly the show is a noisy mess. Occasionally you can hear a Burt Bacharach song through the noise. The team have turned the songs into a rock concert and altered some of the songs(and the lovely melodies) beyond recognition. The male lead may be good on the electric guitar but he has no voice. untidy and uninspiring!

Good musicians but a bit like watching Glee or X-factor. Not very engaging. Strange set, weird choreography, odd musical arrangements. All felt gimmicky. The end felt like a group of kids running a singalong in an old peoples home... Prefer to go home and listen to the originals.

took my husband to see this as part of our 25th wedding anniversary. The whole show was fantastic, great performers who were very slick and multi-talented. Would go again especially if I could get seats on the stage, but so far can't seem to book them.

Had looked forward to going to matinee on 25/10 and hearing so many lovely tunes, which were played by young band with little sensitivity, just bang, bang!! We left at interval,so very disappointed and no good feel factor after our long trip from Sussex.

Beautiful music and songs are murdered in this over loud, noisy performance with dismal depressing not to say very odd scenery. Old carpets hanging around, sofas stuck to walls, Sorry nothing at all to recommend it. We left at the interval having paid a monstrous £66 per ticket in the front stalls. We were looking forward to beautiful music and songs we know well. They were almost unrecognisable with their modern upgrade. So so disappointing not to mention money lost.

Once my wife Maggie and I got used to the fact that this is not a book musical nor is it a jukebox show but something quite unique in theatrical terms then we started to enjoy it. It's all in the title. Those famous Bacharach tunes with (mainly) Hal David lyrics are 're-imagined' - meaning they have been given new treatments and arrangements. Most of them work but sometimes the marriage of the words to music suffers in the attempt to put a contemporary up-tempo beat on a song best remembered as a ballad. The songs are staged and acted by an extremely talented team of versatile performers led by Kyle Riabko who created the experience. Go along and see it but you won't be able to sing along with everything.
