Consent
Consent
Nina Raine’s critically-acclaimed ‘modern classic’ (The Times) Consent, makes a timely and triumphant transfer to the Harold Pinter Theatre for a strictly limited season.
What is justice, what is vengeance, and which is right? Friends take opposing briefs in a contentious legal case. The key witness is a woman whose life seems a world away from theirs. At home, their own lives begin to unravel as every version of the truth is challenged.
Directed by Roger Michell, Consent takes a searing look at the law whilst putting modern relationships into the dock in ‘a play you’ll be talking about for a long time to come’ (Radio Times).

This was absolutely brilliant; I'm still thinking about the play 2 days on. It's by far the best play i've seen in years and i can genuinely say that i was disappointed when it came to an end. lots of laughter and tears

We were in Royal Circle row D, centre. My hearing is good but I missed a fair proportion of the dialogue - essential for full enjoyment of a play with such nuances.

Really excellent. Amazing exchanges and interaction between the characters. Wonderful highs and lows between the exchanges. Can't wait to see it again.

This was a wonderful play that held my attention from the start. The issues regarding consent in rape, betrayal in marriage, the arrogance of barristers and the difficulty men find in saying sorry with meaning, delivered with intelligent, witty (and profane) dialogue, made for a riveting evening in the theatre.

The sound was nit very good where we were sitting in Row S so missed quite a lot. Felt that was a little too much of the F word

Really excellent - the first legal drama that is an accurate portrayal of the issues!

Ther is no them and us divide between successful barristers and their traumatised clients. Infidelity , loss and betrayslxwork their way through in a topical painful way that also highlights the paradoxes in the legal process

Thought provoking play, I didn't think the amount of swearing was necessary or added anything to the play, good acting by all. Enjoyment spoiled by the extremely cold air con.

I didn’t like and enjoy the play. It was the story and the script. But the actors in my opinion were brilliant. I was particularly impressed with the actor playing Ed. Wonderful. Hats off to him.

It might have been a play that lived up to its great reviews if we could have heard what they were saying. Too many key words/phrases were unintelligible - neither of us are deaf or hampered by hearing in the theatre normally. We left at the interval.

Wasn't sure what to expect of this but we were pleasantly surprised. Good actors and lots of very funny lines. Got a bit confusing a couple of times when they were playing 2 scenes at once, but when you get your head around it, makes for an enjoyable evening. Worth seeing.

Good, cynical and with intelligent humor but the end was a bit far stretched- I thought

Excellent acting, thoughtful topic, but could have done with less of the bad language. I am sure people don’t actually use such language.

A compelling drama about the intricacies of the lives of barristers, their clients, and their own private misdemeanours. Nina Raine on top form.

Excellently written. Excellent performances. Great cast. Beautiful theatre. House full of legal types, I reckon. We were in the 3rd row from the front, felt we were in the play. So much to think about - so modern. BRAVO!

My friends and I left the theatre completely speechless. It’s been a while since a play has moved me this much. The story line is definitely unique and engaging to watch unravel but i found that I was left speaking about the characters and their development throughout the play. On one end they were as common and “normal” as characters can be (each of them reminded me of a friend or myself at one point) but they were each also representations of my worst fears. I am buying tickets to go back and have already recommended the play to all of my friends in London.

In a similar vein to Closer. Well acted. Very modern, good natural writing. Enjoyable, kept me hooked. It’s intense - a lot of battling and some uncomfortable truths. But that’s what makes it so good. You learn from it, because it’s intelligent people navigating life, being human and relationships. Would recommend.
