Sylvia
Votes for Women and a fractured family at a momentous hour in British history.
100 years after the first women in Britain were granted the vote, Kate Prince combines dance, hip hop, soul and funk to shed new light on a remarkable story at the heart of the Suffragette movement.
Co-written by Kate Prince and Priya Parmar with original music by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, Sylvia is a modern musical celebrating the life of Sylvia Pankhurst, her pivotal role in the campaign for women’s rights and the price of the passion and politics that tore her family apart.
Sylvia is co-commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, with support from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund, and from the Department for Culture Media and Sport.
An Old Vic, Sadler’s Wells and ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company production, co-commissioned by 14-18 NOW.

I went along to see Sylvia without a clear image of how it would be portrayed. It is a very unusual way of telling the panckhurst story but very powerful and entertaining. All actors were amazing with fabulous voices. The pace of the show was incredible and certain scenes v moving. Especially the one portraying the violence shown towards the suffragettes. I hope the show continues onto a longer run.

I really enjoyed the energy of the performance. I thought the singing was beautiful. The casting was well thought out. I heard about the production on the One Show and booked immediately and am so glad I did. It was also wonderful to see so many young people in the audience who obviously loved the show. I am so glad I went

It started slowly and gradually got going & got better. Loved the voices & different genres of music & singing. Beverley knights voice blew me away. The show had to be halted twice for technical issues but it didn’t faze the cast they just picked up where they left off smoothly. Learnt lots historically & I do feel that the show could be edited down as it was too long. Would definitely recommend to others. Great show.& cast.

The most extraordinary show. The energy from start to finish never stopped. Audience engage the happens immediately. The cast engaged you from the start. Tears and laughter and such powerful scenes taking you through every emotion. The simplicity of the set and staging made the performance so powerful. Outstanding and the best show I have seen.

Loved Silvia........!!! The music is exceptional because it never gets boring, ever. Magnificent voices in solo and some wonderful moments of ensemble singing. What's really astonishing is how so many styles of music are incorporated into the show but it's never disjointed, they all merge into a distinct Silvia sound. And I loved Beverley Knight's performance.

A great moment in history and an inspiring story told through some incredible music and dance. The performance was energetic, moving and modern. Beverly Knight played a powerful Emmeline but the whole cast were superb. This show should have a long run - it's the next Hamilton. It's going to be big.

Fantastic performance, loved it. Amazing voices, dancing and music........despite the seriousness of the topic Kate Prince introduced humour into the show. There is so much in the show I am going back again just in case I missed something!

Wow what a night! It began with the creative director sat on stage explaining that the actress playing Sylvia had been ill on Monday so the understudy had 4 days to learn the part! This was just the start of a connection with the audience that translated throughout the performance. The actors were all incredible. Full of energy and talent belting out seriously cool tunes and moves telling a dramatic and engaging story. Theatre Heaven personified. I just want to go again and take my kids! Well done to all involved x

I went to see Sylvia last night and it was fantastic! The music was very engaging and the performance flawless even if the singer who played Sylvia had to step in just 2 days before to learn the part, she was great. I loved it and I highly recommend it to all my friends.
