The Truth
The Truth
Following sell-out runs at Theatre Royal Bath and the Menier Chocolate Factory, The Truth transfers to the West End for a strictly limited 10-week season.
Two couples, four friends and a complex web of extra-marital affairs, lies and betrayals. Then, finally, the truth.
Written by the award-winning French writer Florian Zeller whose previous play The Father is the most internationally acclaimed new play of the last ten years, The Truth is a sparkling and sharp comedy. The Truth has received rave reviews and is on its way to being yet another phenomenal success for Zeller on both sides of the pond. This must-see production appears on London’s West End in a new translation by Christopher Hampton.
Playing at Wyndham’s Theatre from June, The Truth is directed by celebrated director Lindsay Posner (Abigail’s Party, A View From the Bridge) and stars Tanya Franks (EastEnders, Broadchurch), Alexander Hanson (Stephen Ward, A Little Night Music), Frances O’Connor (Mr Selfridge, Mansfield Park, A.I. Artificial Intelligence) and Robert Portal (Around the World in 80 Days, Communicating Doors).
Previews start June 22nd, book your tickets today!

Most enjoyable evening's entertainment. Painfully funny and engaging. Superb performances which had as on the edge of our seats whilst squirming at the same time.

I thoroughly enjoyed going to see The Truth and would definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates a very good script and excellent acting. The play was hilarious all the way through and I only wished that it had been longer than the 90 minutes it lasted. Don't miss it!

So many twists and turns in the 90 minutes of this wonderfully funny play. Hope it goes on tour so that others who cannot travel to London also get a chance to see it.

This is one of the best plays I have seen. Amazing acting especially the lead he had me in stitches most of the way through the play. Such energy and brilliant comic timing. Thoroughly enjoyed this play and would recommend it as a must see. Well done to all the cast and crew. Excellent night out. Good luck for rest of season.

What an incredible funny show, just four actors who do not stop giving, there are so many twists and turns you cannot believe that it can give any more, but it does , Brilliant production , I highly recommend it !

With only 4 actors and basic setting, this was a very funny romp. Cleverly written and presented. The audience loved it. Twists and turns and truth bent all the time. I came on a recommendation, and wholeheartedly pass this on to others, too.

A dialogue driven play without much to get excited about. A two second romp at the start of the play is hardly worth a mention, though at times I did chuckle at some of the quips. Antagonist becomes protagonist and vice versa in this French farce. The subject matter is not a jokable genre but in this play seems to work well at times. I left thinking that this play wasn't suitable for the bigger stage, more fringeworthy, but then, what do I know, I'm just a playwright. The script lacked depth and the comedic element at times infantile. Full marks to all the actor's. They did a great job of a script set around a small dining table that would have worked in a small room. Would like to have a seen more action rather than continuous deferring to cliche. The night out was enjoyable though.

The best thing I have seen in years. A brilliantly envisaged play and compelling acting throughout. This is exactly what great theatre is - a piece written for the live stage with intense and palpable interaction throughout. Loved it

Very funny, thought-provoking play. On the surface a comedy about infidelity, but with so much more about truthfulness and our own perception of the lies we tell underneath.

Went to see this on a recommendation from a friend. Took another couple with us too. Took about ten minutes to raise a snigger from me, then it just got funnier and funnier. A small cast who all contributed to a great experience in a well constructed story A short play, a hour and a half, so no interval, but that was about right. Our friends enjoyed it so much they are going to recommend it too.

Clever and funny comedy with excellent acting that really pulls you in to the moment on stage. Theatre was remarkable and the stalls keep you so close to the actors and clearly seeing their facial expressions and emotions. Brilliant day out in London with a superb time at the theatre.

Laugh a minute from start to end. 90mins flew by in an instance. Cutting out the interval allowed for the fantastic flow of this outstanding production

The Truth is a hilarious insight into lies & deception, it is a carefully crafted analysis of people's reactions to an unravelling of their own web of lies. We can all recognise a friend or two amongst the characters, which makes it all the more entertaining. 90 minutes of laughter, you know you've seen a good comedy when your face aches!

Having seen The Father on Broadway in NY (where I live) I was shocked on many levels at this piece by the same playwright. It lost me in the first 2 minutes when after having sex the couple were in their underwear. Real, believable people, don't put their underwear back on under the sheets or make love with their bra on. There are ways to depict the post coital slump that is believable. My sense is that the direction was misguided. I didn't laugh once - however the majority of the audience were laughing throughout. Due to the subject matter, infidelity and lying, alas, this Friday night audience of mainly couples/married couples were laughing at themselves. Performances were good and it is mercifully about an hour 20 mins in duration. I found it obvious and predictable and the subject matter has been covered better by better playwrights and directors. I think I am one of a few who had the reaction to this piece that I did. Definitely not my thing.

Very funny, very entertaining. Great examples of misplaced outrage, aggressive defensiveness (usually signalling guilt!) and interesting ideas about loyalty and betrayal, but all in a much more light hearted fashion than I'd expected. Only 1.5 hours with no interval which felt the right length.

This is a marvellously written comedy, but more than this, it is a thought provoking play translated from French in such an accurate and sharp way. The cash are great and at so point are you disinterested or bored. You come away thinking of your own life and experiences. Yes what are lies and what is the truth in human relationships? Think about it and see this play.

Brilliantly scripted by Christopher Hampton and hilariously funny I loved every minute. The characters were vividly brought to life by the cast and the desperate efforts to prevent the "truth" from coming out were wildly funny. I would see it again in a heartbeat.

This was rather disappointing. Zeller used many of the same techniques he used in The Father to create doubts about what has really happened, but used them for comic effect. The result was a rather flimsy piece that played on the clichés of betrayal (but much less interestingly than Pinter did) and required the exaggerated comedic acting of French farce to match the theatrically artificial dialogue – which it received brilliantly from the actor playing Michel – but the payoff was a single scene between Michel and Paul, and the outcome rather transparent. Zeller certainly knows how to manipulate an audience, and this audience absolutely lapped it up. But it left me and the person I came with feeling like we had seen a pretty thin piece of theatre, very well acted and directed, but nonetheless, thin.

This is such a brilliant play! And the translation from Christopher Hampton is sheer genius. I bought the book, but it's only through recalling the absolutely impeccable and professional acting that brings it to life. It was funny from beginning to end. Alexander Hanson does his usual performance which is a high quality level of acting, sheer brilliance of delivery and utterly mesmerising as Michel. High time he was given the credit he deserves for his ability! The set was totally appropriate, clean and pristine in total opposite to the morals of the characters. Scene changes were flawless. Why should you go see The Truth. Because it's funny and makes you laugh and connect heart and some with the characters. I loved it

This is a play which you take home and gives you food for thought hereafter.Seen Father which had my wife in tears ,so moving it was.Truth belongs to a different genre but the last scene is the ultimate TRUTH.Some people are disturbed by their guilt but there are some who are shrewd can make you feel guilty when they themselves are in no way better but they are cool and composed and never disturbed by the voice within. The twist in the tale is apt .

Absolutely amazing comedy, I could not stop laughing, even after performance. It's been a long time since West End had such a wonderful comedy, terribly witty, perceptive and brutally realistic. I would highly recommend to anyone that loves comedy and appreciate irony of common life occurrence presented in terribly funny and intelligent way.
