The Comedy About A Bank Robbery
The Comedy About A Bank Robbery
The comedy masterminds behind five-star hits The Play That Goes Wrong (Olivier Award for Best New Comedy) and Peter Pan Goes Wrong, return to the West End with their latest lung-bustingly funny creation: The Comedy About A Bank Robbery.
Welcome to Minneapolis, 1958, and the Minneapolis City Bank. Now under the gruff and rather irreverent management of Robin Freeboys, the Bank is entrusted with a priceless diamond by a Hungarian prince. However, when the jewel catches the eye of mean-spirited jailbird Mitch, he teams up with corrupt guard Cooper and Freeboys’ money-hungry daughter Candice, intent on separating the Bank from its most precious deposit.
Mischief Theatre’s new play, written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, is already being called the funniest show in London. Fast-paced and riotously hilarious, The Comedy About A Bank Robbery masterfully unites screw-ball comedy with real theatrical invention, and is guaranteed to have you rolling in the aisles.

My partner and I loved Mischief Theatre's other show, The Play that Goes Wrong and thought we'd see this too. It is sheer comic genius which is suitable for all ages. Some scenes, like the first scene in Caprice's bedroom had the whole theatre in fits of laughter. Highly recommend.

I booked tickets to this show off the back of the play that went wrong which I loved. I was expecting a similar sort of slapstick. But to be honest this show was very slow to start. Laughed a little just before the interval and in the second half the scene in the aircon was good. Overall I felt a bit let down after enjoying their other show so much. I would not recommend.

Very well done, funny and entertaining, very well done with the stage changes interpreted into the story. A lighthearted take on a theatre show.

Amusing parts of comedy, can't help but feel that it's firmly under the wing of "the play that goes wrong", which is a bigger and more amusing affair

It took a while for the show to get going, but the second half was REALLY funny, with some incredible physical comedy and unbelievably fast dialogue. The guy who played the 67 year old bank worker was brilliant, he should be on the big screen, being seen by millions!

I loved the play, it was so funny, clever sharp wit and full of energy. I laughed from beginning to end. The scene where the audience felt they were looking down from the air conditioning shaft was extremely clever, well done to the set designers. I would like to see the others two plays that one of the cast recommended at the end of the show. Thank you to everyone at the Criterion Theatre.

Superb creation by the imaginative Mischief Theatre Company. A slightly different vibe from the ‘goes wrong’ plays but equally entertaining. Some marvellous stunts, great song routines as well with this one and many laughs. A bit of innuendo and bad language if you are concerned about taking children but it’s in context and you can probably head off the questions later. All in all a great fun game evening at the wonderful Criterion theatre which is right next to Piccadilly Circus tube station for easy escape afterwards. Highly recommend this as a fun night out.

Our party of six, celebrating two birthdays had the most incredible night. So funny that there was little time for the audience to applaud between gags. A must see, as is The Play that goes Wrong

I watch a lot of shows all around the world. But I don't remember the last time I had such a blessed watching a show. The acting was phenomenal and so does the setting. The show was cleverly done. And the humor was on point. Well done

Not as funny as ptgw but still enjoyable even though after half an hour there was a problem and curtain went down at first we thought it was part of the show but after 15 minutes they explained that another actor was playing the part of Sam.

I really enjoyed this play once I got into it. It's nice and gently, cleverly funny and has some great moments of clever staging. The only criticism I could bring is that it started with quite high energy - lots of shouting and slamming doors which was a bit abrasive and also meant you felt a bit hit around the face with the jokes. By the time it got to the end and the farcical nature of the storyline got more and more absurb - with funny consequences- it was fine having this kind of energy but it would be have better if it was a little less overacted at the beginning as it made it hard to follow. Generally though it's a really fun, if slightly pricey, way to spend an afternoon or evening and is really fun and well produced.

Last year we came to we” The play That goes Wrong” & absolutely loved, best comedy play we have seen for many years. Unfortunately we chose this play on the strength of last year, big mistake. In our opinion this was not even in the same league, in fact we nearly walked out at the interval! Yours very very disappointed.
