As it says a completely new revival. It works brilliantly funny, emotional and menacing in parts. Fantastically arranged music a totally different sound, marvellous. A great show, a must see show

An ok production. If you are going to change/ modernise a classic make sure the new version can stand up against it. The scenery was basic, lighting poor and voice projection could have been better. It needed a bigger ensemble to bring it to life. The title song was ok but that should have been the big one. When I have heard it sung on many other platforms it always sends a tingle down my spine. This was just a whimper as there just wasn’t enough to bring it to life. It was clearly produced on a budget and it showed. Sorry to say.

Very disappointing production. No idea how it warrants 5* Too much darkness, smoke, little atmosphere and laboured throughout - apart from the last 10 minutes my friends and I were totally bored - sorry

This new production sparkles whilst delicious new musical arrangements provide foot tapping numbers and uplifting vocal performances. The only part that did not quite fit was the second half dream sequence which has an overwhelmingly heavy soundtrack that is a bit uncomfortable on the ear drums and too long .

I hadn’t read any reviews so had expectations of gingham and hoe downs. Well… I got those but so much more. I was gripped, it was Shakespeare and Sophocles and Euripides and Rogers and Hammerstein. I feel so jealous of those who are yet to see it.

Loved the idea of reworking this classic but some bits just didn't work! The dream/nightmare dance at the beginning of act 2, clever but way too long cut it by 2/3rds you were completely losing the audience, All my party were choruses as to why curly shot Geb (not knowing the story!) This wasn't very clear! And the blacked out scenes, my companion thought there'd been a power cut!! Having said that, loved the cast and band, just think it needs a bit of tweaking!!

There is something irksome about House lights being left on … yes it contrasted with the scenes with blackouts or strange coloured lighting but it also created a “Verfremdungseffekt” - alienation; I could not lose myself in the world of the play. The director also thought it was clever to have actors on stage all the time whether involved in the action or not - it was certainly different but made it hard to focus on the actual scene. The Brechtian minimalism ripped the joy out of the musical and the actors struggled to engage. The strange and interminable dance at the start of the second act was another example of a director not letting a play and it’s music speak for themselves. Largely disappointing.

Having seen the excellent reviews for this production and loving various past productions of this musical I thought I would enjoy it. How wrong I was. I considered leaving after the first half but decided to endure. This upcycled version was certainly not for me. Perhaps more suitable for the younger generation. On the plus side, the theatre was full and that was very good to see.

The worst show I've ever been too in all my years, didn't hang around for the 2nd half. total let down. one boring set, sound poor, the list is endless, total ruined the show & nothing like or anyway near the original. it said, This visionary production is funny and sexy, provocative and probing, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING.
