Tom, Dick & Harry
Tom, Dick & Harry
‘An ingenious take on the Great Escape’ The Times
‘A dizzying level of stage craft on display in this irresistible tale of derring-do’ The Stage
This London premiere of the story made famous by the 1963 movie starring Steve McQueen, is to be staged in the round at the historic Alexandra Palace Theatre, which was itself a prisoner of war camp between 1914-1919.
Based on the true story behind the escape from the infamous Stalag Luft III prisoner of war camp, Tom, Dick and Harry (the names of the three escape tunnels of course!) will debunk the myths, honour the people involved, and tell the true story of one of the most daring escape attempts in World War II history.
With acrobatics, rousing music, and a script inspired by top secret information that was classified in the war archives until 1972, this is a funny, touching and truly inspiring story.
Co-written by Andrew Pollard, Michael Hugo and Theresa Heskins and brought to the stage by the producer of the worldwide smash-hits The Play That Goes Wrong and SIX the Musical, book now for this extraordinary theatrical adventure.

An absolutely fantastic performance by all the cast. We were total gripped throughout the whole production. The pace of the actors and their transitions between their different character portrales was incrediable. The staging was great. We are so glad we have seen it.

As a regular at the New Vic over many years prior to relocating to Suffolk, I was not in the least bit surprised that this production, which has transferred from Staffordshire, is as good as it is. The imagination and vitality of the show is striking, those are things Vic-goers expect, story-telling is one of Theresa Heskins' strongest attributes and with collaborators Michael Hugo and Andrew Pollard both bursting with ideas and energy, the recipe for success is complete. The story is well enough known yet our knowledge of the dread ending for virtually all the escapees does not deter our absorption in their experience and endeavour. The cast is high quality, in addition to Hugo and Pollard, Nicholas Richardson brings his sturdy presence to proceedings and David Fairs is excellent as corporal Giesler, with whom the prisoners have an ongoing cat and mouse situation as he tries to find evidence of the planned escape. His speech on the deprivations of German civilians whilst the the prisoners live in comfort is movingly presented. This is one of many highlights, the play is in turns funny, sad, uncomfortable and dizzingly uplifting, as with Sam Craig's well observed Carmen Miranda number. Andrius Gaucas as the Czech tailor Janacek and Perry Moore as the hapless Fritz are both perfect. All in all a terrific night of live theatre.

Excellent afternoon watching Tom, Dick and Harry. The cast work exceptionally hard to deliver outstanding performances. Would love to see this show on the road at some more local theatres so that others who are unable to travel to London are able to attend a performance.

A wonderful portrayal of a serious bit of history. Well done with humour and pathos. The theatre effect lighting told the story with the great audio. Actors very good. Well worth the visit also to see the "Ali Pali" in all its glory.

I would have loved to have left a review but sadly, due to the rail strike, we were unable to get up there. This was particularly disappointing as having purchased the ticket protection insurance at the time of purchase I genuinely believed I was covered if such an eventuality occurred. Sadly not. Please be aware that the insurance offered covers you for very little other than not being able to attend due to enforced military service or jury service. Even confirmed Covid is not covered. My advice would be to double check cover before purchasing- I didn’t and this was a mistake.

I can’t believe they told the story using such a small area. A stunning presentation!! The humour was great too.

A strange topic for a contemporary musical, but this is a very professional, fascinating and entertaining production, which shines a light on aspects of PoW life. The producers had done their research and the characters mostly avoided being stereotyped. I found it gripping but DoI: my father was in Stalag Luft III and calculated the length of the tunnel - which came out short of the trees. Hence fewer prisoners got out - and fewer were shot by the Gestapo.

This is a brilliant and innovative take on the story of the famous escape from Stalag Luft III. High energy performances from all the cast. The night we went there was a standing ovation in spite of the heat, rail strike etc. Well worth seeing before the run ends on 28th August.

We absolutely LOVED Tom Dick and Harry at the Alexandra Palace Theatre - It was nothing that we'd expected and everything we'd hoped. It kept us entertained with the most fabulous staging, lighting and sound, and every single part was PERFECTLY cast. One additional cast member is the theatre itself - If you've never been there, go there! Victorian history oozes out of the brickwork!

I was interested to see how the action would be portrayed and was impressed with the meticulous precision with which the scene changes were accomplished. The whole cast performed excellently as an ensemble⁹⁸
