Much Ado About Nothing
Much Ado About Nothing
Shakespeare’s battle of the sexes is reignited this Summer with a riotous new production of Much Ado About Nothing in the Globe Theatre.
In the aftermath of a fierce conflict, soldier Claudio finds himself on the frontline of a different fight: for the love of Hero. His friend Benedick, on the other hand, is willing to do everything he can to evade affection and meets his match in Beatrice.
Eight years after the seminal production of Titus Andronicus, ‘ingenious’ ★★★★ (The Guardian), Lucy Bailey returns to the Globe to direct our 2022 Globe Ensemble in Shakespeare’s energetic tale of jealousy, self-discovery and love.
‘I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow, than a man swear he loves me.’

Amazing version of my favourite Shakespeare Play, made more special by being at the Globe and the last show of the season! Glad the weather held out! Loved the change to Antonia and Leonarta, the loving witty bickering between Beatrice and Benedick (plus exceptionally timed physical comedy), Dogberry - who stole the show with his buffoonery - and the staging as a whole. Felt like we were part of the Summer Party! Great interaction with audience. A total joy. Thank you

What can I say except what fun, what an interesting way to portray this play, a production not to be missed. A production that keeps both young and old on their toes despite knowing the play well. Shakespere would have thoroughly approved of the up to date modern intepretation. The actors obviously enjoy delivering the play as much as we all enjoyed watching it. Thank you

This was a brilliant production full of life and humour and we enjoyed the theatre in the round enormously. It was our first time at the Globe and we will return next summer.

Shakespeare as farce, with added feminism.

I understand making changes for modern audiences, & this was a good try. But is it Shakespeare? I did not like the women being masculine, aggressive and over sexually explicit legs apart and gyrating. . I did not like Hero turning to her mother and ad libbing saying "keep out of it mum it's not your wedding" in fact there was no feminine delicacy to be found. However, after the interval, what a transformation!! it was like a proper shakespearean production nicely modernised, & I loved the passion from the cast who seemed to stop mucking about and display their true talents as actors worthy of the RSC.

Fabulous, brilliant and superb. It's was the best performance I have seen for sometime. The location, weather and excellent cast came together to provide a magical afternoon at the Globe. If there is a recording of the performance I would to buy a copy!

For the first half hour, I struggled to hear some of the dialogue and was pretty baffled. Once I got into it, it was great. Really fun performance done as a musical. Audience loving it by the end

Great fun, witty, lively, great exchanges and really good chemistry between the actors, though this didn't surprise me as they were The Tempest company also. Very much recommended. I have seen all the summer shows apart from King Lear and this one tops the list just ahead of Tempest for me.

This is the second time I've seen this production. First time I was seated, but came back with some friends to watch from the pit. We all love the show. Beautifully performed and a joy to watch and be part of.

We three gals from Germany couldn't have better spent our last night in London as at the Globe watching this production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Projecting the most subtle gestures and messages with such musical prowess, the versatile cast captured and entertained us to the fullest!

A hugely entertaining performance by a cast whose talents continued to surprise and amaze throughout the performance. The interpretation was imaginative and highly amusing. Well done to all involved and thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

From the beautiful production, the often hilarious, often moving acting, and being jostled to accommodate the various entrances and exits of the cast, standing for three hours in the October sunshine to watch my favourite of Shakespeare's plays was just about heaven! Thank you!

I watched it under the very stage and saw the actors' play, facial expressions, gestures well. It was so magnificently and artistically played, a lot of humor. I got great pleasure.

I have never done Shakespeare at The Globe and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The casting was well done and loved the 1930's dressing. We chose a good day, sat up in the gods with fair but not hot weather. Would return in the spring.

I have rarely seen such an inventive and all absorbing production of Much Ado. The comedy was played to the full and the interpretation of the language made it so accessible. Beatrice and Benedick squeezed so much fun out of all their lines. Loved the physicality and choreography. more from Lucy Bailey please!

MAON is a great play but when you leads like this, with so much sensational use of intonation, pause, facial expression, body language and out-on-a-limb direction, you have a winner. Thoroughly good entertainment for anyone over 12.

A very clever reinvention of this well - known play . The setting in 1920’s Italy was ingenious, as was the direction and stagecraft . Excellent use of music too ! The only slight regret , sitting to the extreme left of the stage , was that the actors usually had their backs to us for a good proportion of the action .

I attended the performance with my friend, and we both received a boost of positivity! Thank you all who created, performed and organised the event! The theatre has a marvellous location; so during the interval, we enjoyed the view on Thames.

Excellent acting and staging. Great atmosphere inside the theatre. However, we had 2 people reading scripts because of sickness including Benedick. He was wonderful but why weren’t there official understudies? Acoustics aren’t great - couldn’t hear a fair bit of it.

Having never seen a show at the globe before, I wasn't sure what to expect. But I can tell you that it far surpassed any expectations I could have ever held. It was funny, whitty, fun, and the audience participation was fantastic. I stood there, whilst booing the main baddy, knowing full well this has been done for hundreds of years, and hope it shall endure. An experience I hope to repeat again and again.

I did realise when I booked that we were in restricted view seats, but I did not find put until the night what a huge impact this would have on our enjoyment of the play. Unfortunately we missed a lot of the action because of a massive pillar on the stage. Also, the cast seemed to direct most of their output towards the front, front left and right of the stage. If you were seated behind them, as we were , for most of the action, it was actually hard to even understand the words. Also, having an actor acting with a script in his hand made it feel a bit like AmDram, especially as he was not in 40's clothes like the rest, but in jeans, etc.

Loved the play and the accordion music. Didn’t love the pillar in the way of our £35 seats (A4 and5) and my partner had trouble hearing ( he’s slightly deaf) Still recommend it as a fun piece of theatre.

Brilliant cast. My family and I had so much fun! And members of the audience around the globe could not control their laughter. I would never have thought I could enjoy a show standing in the rain for 2.5-3 hours!
