City of Angels
City of Angels
The Donmar Warehouse’s Olivier Award-winning production of CITY OF ANGELS hits the West End!
A screenwriter with a movie to finish.
A private eye with a case to crack.
But nothing’s black and white when a dame is involved.
And does anyone stick to the script in this city?
This is Tinseltown. You gotta ask yourself: what’s real…and what’s reel…
Josie Rourke’s “ingenious, stupendous revival” (The Telegraph) premiered in 2014, when it was hailed as “a blissful evening” (The Stage) that’s “smart, seductive and very funny” (Evening Standard). With a swinging score by Cy Coleman and David Zippel and a brilliantly witty book by Larry Gelbart, CITY OF ANGELS is a musical love letter to the glamorous world of old Hollywood and film noir.
The West End production will star Hadley Fraser, Theo James, Rosalie Craig, Rebecca Trehearn, Jonathan Slinger with Nicola Roberts and Vanessa Williams.

What a wonderful feel good show! Clever, witty, sassy, funny a visual delight for fans of film noir. Wonderful performances especially from the ladies some who performed dual roles. Was completely mesmerised from beginning to end and left with a big smile on my face and humming a tune. Terrific!

I wish I had seen this show at The Donmar as it’s more suited to a small intimate space. Not the show for people expecting moving scenery and multiple sets. It’s very wordy and clever, but last night’s Audience hung on every word. I only recognised one song ( and now can’t really work out how I know it!!) but there are plenty included. Cracking band !

Good show, poor seat. Really enjoyed all the performances. Stand out were the ladies with great voices and stage presence. I was in row U and being this far back Means you can’t see the top part of the stage. A fair bit of the show including the ending, takes place on a balcony where you can only see people from the waist down this really should be mentioned when purchasing the ticket

I thought that this sort of show was lost. It's sassy , sexy, funny, and does it all with a great deal of style. The women are strong and the men are tough with loads of fun. The costumes and the set just smacks of an era when glamour was the standard. go see this show you'll love it.

My partner and I did not know what to expect from the show as we didn’t really do our research before getting the tickets. However, we were blown away by the talent, staging, the show itself - just amazing. Looking to see it again before the cast changes.

The idea is great but I found it confusing at times. There are some great singers and a couple of great songs but the other songs are not always clear and a bit dull. It moved quite slow. I really liked the set and the rewind scenes, some great effects. If you sit in the stalls towards the back you will not see the top of the stage and will miss out on a lot of the action. Best to be towards the front of stalls or the circle.
