Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake — New Adventures
Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake — New Adventures
Swan Lake returns with a fresh look for the 21st century. Retaining the iconic elements of the original, Matthew Bourne and award-winning designers Lez Brotherston (set and costumes) and Paule Constable (lighting) will create an exciting re-imagining of the classic production.
Thrilling, audacious and emotive, this Swan Lake is perhaps best known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, shattering convention and taking the dance world by storm.
Collecting over 30 international accolades including an Olivier and three Tony Awards, Bourne’s powerful interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece is a passionate and contemporary Swan Lake for our times.

I got a ticket to see this ballet after a recommendation from a friend who had seen this production a few years ago. I loved this performance. The male cygnets were different but delightful and their power and strength was remarkable. I had a lovely seat in the front row of the gallery and couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommend it and may try and see Romeo and Juliet this August.

Saw the performance first time around, and fell in love with it. This time l found it had less humour and more drama, quite dark in some of the relationships. Stage small so a little tight in the iconic dances. Buy a programme or goggle the storyline as different. Cannot fault the choreography, the dancers are superb and HOT. Not the ROH in a good way, you will not be disappointed on any level, once again in a good way. Not your usual expectation of a traditional ballet, go prepared and understand story line, the iconic music is there just a different interpretation of the ballet, once again in a good way.

Prepared to be challenged, to be amazed, to be in awe. This is a fabulous production, the choreography is imaginative, humorous and dramatic, the dancing is phenomenal. Go and see it.

An emotionally charged performance by the cast with very demanding maneouvres beautifully executed. The Swan is so dangerous and yet alluring. The funny moments (e.g. a mobile phone going off and the four cygnets (?) dance) gave some release, but I was at the edge of my seat almost throughout.
