Starring Emma Hatton, Bill Kenwright’s production of Evita, the popular musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, is set for a strictly limited season in the West End.

A ‘monumental show’ (Sunday Express), Evita follows the rise of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, as she journeys from humble beginnings to extraordinary wealth, power, and an iconic status as the ‘spiritual leader of the nation’ in the eyes of the Argentine people.

Featuring songs like “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”, “On This Night of a Thousand Stars”, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall”, and “You Must Love Me”, Evita has won over 20 major awards and been made into an Oscar winning film starring Madonna and Antonia Banderas. Much like Eva Peron, the musical has risen to an iconic status, and Kenwright’s production may just be the theatrical event of the summer.

Called ‘superb’ by the Sunday Telegraph, this new production of Evita is not to be missed. Book your tickets for Evita at the Phoenix Theatre in London today!

Emma Hatton is a wonderfully compelling Evita in this robust staging of Tim Rice's classic

Emma Hatton makes the role entirely her own with the ferocity of a personality whose grasping ambition takes no prisoners in her relentless climb to the top.

I saw the UK tour a couple of years back and went with some friends to see this West End revival on Tuesday. For all the passion and anger that should be stirred in Evita this left us feeling flat with one of our group wanting to leave at the interval. Gian Marco as Che lacked anger as he skipped around the stage while Emma as Evita struggled at times to be heard over the orchestra and some high notes were lost. The dance and energy was good but the power required in the ensemble to show the anger felt by the lower classes and the distain of the upper class was missing - maybe seeing this in week 1 would have been better as the cast appeared to be exhausted and almost bored by week 8; at times feeling as though we were watching a company simply go through the motions. By the end of Act2 the stalls were on their feet for the curtain call but to comments from one of my group of "people will give a standing ovation to anything these days". Sadly I had to agree with them as overall it lacked power and felt tired/dated.

What a performance. Everyone delivered strong performances. I loved the production and I have seen different productions - last one was with Marti Pellow but this topped that. I had read a lot of bad reviews before I saw this show and cannot believe it was the same production I had seen I thought it was fresh and sassy and myself and 3 friends walked out on a high and still singing the tunes today. Bravo a great night and performance from all of the cast!
