Evita
Evita
Starring Emma Hatton, Bill Kenwright’s production of Evita, the popular musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, is set for a strictly limited season in the West End.
A ‘monumental show’ (Sunday Express), Evita follows the rise of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, as she journeys from humble beginnings to extraordinary wealth, power, and an iconic status as the ‘spiritual leader of the nation’ in the eyes of the Argentine people.
Featuring songs like “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”, “On This Night of a Thousand Stars”, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall”, and “You Must Love Me”, Evita has won over 20 major awards and been made into an Oscar winning film starring Madonna and Antonia Banderas. Much like Eva Peron, the musical has risen to an iconic status, and Kenwright’s production may just be the theatrical event of the summer.
Called ‘superb’ by the Sunday Telegraph, this new production of Evita is not to be missed. Book your tickets for Evita at the Phoenix Theatre in London today!

Emma Hatton is a wonderfully compelling Evita in this robust staging of Tim Rice's classic

Emma Hatton makes the role entirely her own with the ferocity of a personality whose grasping ambition takes no prisoners in her relentless climb to the top.

I saw the UK tour a couple of years back and went with some friends to see this West End revival on Tuesday. For all the passion and anger that should be stirred in Evita this left us feeling flat with one of our group wanting to leave at the interval. Gian Marco as Che lacked anger as he skipped around the stage while Emma as Evita struggled at times to be heard over the orchestra and some high notes were lost. The dance and energy was good but the power required in the ensemble to show the anger felt by the lower classes and the distain of the upper class was missing - maybe seeing this in week 1 would have been better as the cast appeared to be exhausted and almost bored by week 8; at times feeling as though we were watching a company simply go through the motions. By the end of Act2 the stalls were on their feet for the curtain call but to comments from one of my group of "people will give a standing ovation to anything these days". Sadly I had to agree with them as overall it lacked power and felt tired/dated.

What a performance. Everyone delivered strong performances. I loved the production and I have seen different productions - last one was with Marti Pellow but this topped that. I had read a lot of bad reviews before I saw this show and cannot believe it was the same production I had seen I thought it was fresh and sassy and myself and 3 friends walked out on a high and still singing the tunes today. Bravo a great night and performance from all of the cast!

Enjoyed it thoroughly; all performances excellent. Evita a little loud in place bordering on raucous. Ché was the star. Costumes great.

So glad I caught this before it finishes its west-end run. Scenery and staging a great backdrop to amazing performances. Emma Hatton was outstanding as Eva Peron and Gian Marco Schiaretti made a very good Che. All in all a great show with the lovely Lloyd Webber score featuring so many well known songs. Would I go again? Indeed I would!

We sat in the middle of the Dress circle in row c but allthe dress circle seats were good as it is smallish theatre. The show was fanstastic. The service to seats, general service right down to the doormen making sure no-oen got run over queueing were all helpful too. Very relaxing experience.

Truly spell-binding. The principle leads were so powerful and commanding. Watched it with my dad, who cried at the poignancy of it. Had no idea it closes next week - so fortunate to have seen it . Highly recommend it. For me, it's up there with Les Miss and Phantom!

Excellent performance and the story is moving.... It's worth to watch ... it's been awhile since the movie who starred and portrayed by Madonna and Antonio Banderas , respectively. It must be play in a bigger stage. But I rated 5 starts because I Loved the story and the show itself. OUTSTANDING and Brilliant portrayal of the show.

A highly recommendable musical. This was the 4th time i went to see it. The music and lyrics are great, perfectly expressing the highly emotional (and sad !) story of her life. Having lived myself in Buenos Aires as a child in the late 60s, and again as an adult in the late 80s, I have very much felt Evita's ongoing presence in the country.....and even still today.

With no question the best aspect of Evita is its music, which is a good thing as 95% of the plays dialogue is sung. The songs are quite excellent, with a wide range of toe-tapping tunes that make me consider wanting to buy the album. That said, I find that, especially for the first half, many of the characters, and story itself, seem held at arms length for me. I found it difficult to connect with them at first, on account of how quickly the plot seemed to progress. However, the music did in part make up for this, filling the emotional gap and allowing me to enjoy Evita a great deal.

Never seen it before and I was not disappointed. All the singing was good and Emma Hatton was terrific. But equally good were the dance routines. Finally, the stage changes were simple but so slick. The Phoenix has a warm, red velvet charm and staff to match. Crazy not to go.....

We went to the theatre for my wife's 60th birthday , as part of a week long break in London ( we are from north west England). On arriving at the Phoenix all staff were very welcoming. We had seats in the stalls (G1,G2) These are aisle seats as my wife needed this . The view was fine and the proximity to the stage just about right. There is an orchestra providing live music for the performance - they were excellent. The show was really enjoyable and all the performances outstanding. Eva's performance was impecable. The cast got a full standing ovation at the close. It was a shame it all had to finish. This is not a new show (we haven't seen it before) but we really had a great evening.
