Matilda The Musical (London) tickets
Matilda the Musical is a magical offering from the acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company, inspired by the beloved book by the incomparable Roald Dahl!
Hailed as a musical triumph and recipient of over 85 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical, this fantastic piece of theatre continues to delight audiences in London, and began its first UK & Ireland Tour in March 2018.
What Is Matilda About?
Matilda the Musical tells the story of a young girl of incredible intelligence who is determined to change her own story, even if it means being a little bit naughty...
A funny and sharp book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by celebrated Australian comedian Tim Minchin add a new dimension to this children’s favourite.
Rather than being derivative of the original tale, Matilda the Musical adds new depth to the story.
There’s all the nastiness of Dahl’s novel, with a little girl whizzed across stage by her pigtails and a boy made to eat a giant chocolate cake, but this production also revels in the consolation offered by books and the transformative power of the imagination.
Matthew Warchus’ production is witty and intelligent as well as exuberant and big-hearted.
Matilda the Musical is a fantastic depiction of the disorder of childhood and the importance of making one’s own way in the world.
Backed by sensationally creative sets and props and an extraordinary cast of child and adult actors, this musical truly sets Dahl’s story alight.
An absolutely fantastic show. A joy to watch
I was looking forward to seeing the show as my granddaughter thought it was great. But there in lies the problem I feel it is definitely a show for children or if you have children with you. The child cast members were great as was Miss Trunchbull but I felt that Matildas parents were awful particularly the father. After the interval there were seats that were not returned to so I think I am not on my own.
Absolutely brilliant! The cast were phenomenal, really inspiring. Such a great production and loved the set design!
I would recommend this show to anybody with or without children. A vibrant, energetic, exciting performance by all the actors. Matilda, played by Olivia Wells, is outstanding. So much to learn both words and actions. She is awesome!
Matilda completely blew me and my family away. The stage, the performance, the dancing and the acting of Matilda as well as the story telling captivated us and has us enthralled. Can’t recomm it highly enough, it was both funny, sad and humourous. 5 stars
Held your attention right from the start. Excellent staging, brilliant effects, amazing cast
It was by far the worst Musical i have ever seen in my life , Songs were terrible , lacked humour and as for the story line what was that about ?? . Felt like walking out after the first ten minutes and regret not doing that. My rating is 2/10 and that is only because the kids tried their best in difficult circumstances.
My girls aged 4 and 6 enjoyed the show so much! They didn’t even wanna go to the toilet till the end! Matilda has a sad story but on the other side it’s very inspiring for kids. Will definitely watch it again next year!
I went with my daughter-in-law and granddaughtr, age seven. We all loved the show. The performances delivered by the children were quite outstanding.
BRILLIANT. The best, most jubilating feeling you can't help to have by the end. I'd see it again and again!!
Utterly brilliant !! The children were amazing , I think the best show I have ever seen !
I enjoyed the show very much but thought the second half was much better than the first. The children were amazing!!
...better than some of the other shows I’ve seen in the west end (like wicked etc) - really great fun for the entire family. Cast are amazing
It was a lovely show with wonderful performances all round. I thought the children, especially little Matilda, were wonderful - simply amazing. It is a delightful story perfectly complemented by the music. The comedy element was brilliant. I have recommended the show to a number of people.
The best show I have seen so far, was blow away! Will be booking again for the end of the year! 10/10!
Amazing performance from the whole cast, especially miss trunchball and the children. The staff at the box office were also very very kind and helpful, especially the man on the left ,brilliant theatre.
The show was amazing The children are so clever We loved it
We went to the Sunday afternoon performance and had an amazing afternoon. The performance was great and the venue very helpful and professional.
Great show for families. The kids just loved it and the (young) artists are incredible. The voices are just stunning.
Matilda was better than I expected. I thought it was all about the kids in school but the back story was superbly performed. Great cast and excellent LIVE music
Fantastic show! We had nic time. High recommend!
A good message for kids!!
Matilda was a fantastic show and the Cambridge Theatre was a lovely venue.
Of what I could see I mostly enjoyed the show.
We took my son for his birthday and he was completely captivated! The show was just amazing so well performed by all and the staging was so beautifully done! The staff were wonderful, cheerful and helpful
wonderful show! Took my daughter for her eighth birthday and she loved it. Fantastic performances from everyone. 10/10 xx
Easy to book. Printed tickets with no problems Found theatre and seats. Seats were in a great location, theatre very warm throughout performance. Ordered drinks for half time and received well. Friendly atmosphere. Fantastic show, great acting, and enjoyable for young and old.
A must see!
My 5year old did not think much of it she was fidgeting and asked if she could go three time was not like the film at all Matilda was very good I must say
Wife and kids loved it!
I know it’s a pricey show but really blew us away engaging the whole time with exceptional performances that made every character stand out. The staging and set is something else and the creative design must be praised as much as the musical performers. You really cannot go wrong with this for all ages a fabulous afternoon in a lovely setting. Matilda we loved you!
We enjoyed every minute of this outstanding production. The set was unbelievable - so imaginative! The cast were all incredible - Trunch was especially funny and scary at the same time... Mr and Mrs Wormwood were amazing - we also loved Antonio the latin dancer! I will be buying tickets for Manchester!
A very nice night had by all. Me and my daughter was singing along the whole time!
Excellent staging and production. The show was well cast and the larger than life characters were fabulous for the family audience. We were constantly surprised by the perfect timing and interaction as well as the agility of the cast. Not all words were clear in the songs - this could have been because we were in the front row. I would have appreciated being able to see the band, which was off stage. The synchronisation was very impressive and the band could have had its own applause rather than just standing behind the cast.
My 8 year old enjoyed the show, though he was slightly more fidgety then he was through the likes of Wicked and Charlie and Chocolate Factory etc - he gave it an 8/10! There were children slightly younger (approx 6+) who found it quite frightening, it is quite dark with special effects with loud music and lighting etc. Overall good show- great seats (row F in the middle- stalls)
A brilliant family show - thoroughly enjoyed by all
Brilliantl show from start to finish! Really enjoyed it Woukd definitely recommend
Bit loud for younger children but overall exellent.
The outstanding character was Mr Wormward. He was hilarious. The musical was funny and enthralling from beginning to end
The best West End show we have seen!! My kids son 11 and daughter 8 loved every minute as did me and my husband.
my daughter loved the show
Was my daughters first West End musical experience and she absolutely LOVED it. Magical show. Amazing singing and dancing. Highly recommend.
Lead actress playing Matilda sung through her nose and spoke as though reading her lines rather than acting them out. I wanted to leave quite early on. The scenes where she sang were quite boring. I didn’t feel entertained. Wish we’d bought tickets for something else. As a regular theatregoer I wasn’t entirely impressed. It wasn’t the worst show I’ve seen but certainly not one of the better ones either.
Amazing could not have enjoyed it more
Great show impressive theatre ! no problem to leave ,very easy exit after show, crowd moved easily and constantly out of building.
One of the best theatre productions in the Westend at the moment. Vibrant, funny, superb casting and wonderful staging.
