The Girls
The Girls
The Girls is the true story of the Yorkshire Calendar Girls - a group of ordinary ladies who achieved something extraordinary.
This new musical comedy has brought together the writing talents of Gary Barlow and Tim Firth who grew up in the same village in the North of England and have been friends for 25 years.
The Girls originally opened at The Grand Theatre in Leeds and The Lowry, Salford where it received standing ovations at every performance.

I went to see this show because I knew someone in the support cast so a bit dutiful in a good way. But to my surprise the show was fabulous- absolutely delightful. It is witty in a laugh out loud way, moving and thoughtful and the music is great. Marvellous to see female leads of all ages and shapes, with a very strong cast across the board. If you have missed it on the West End - the tour should be on your 'must see' list. I will be going again!

Overall the show was good. The second half was much better than the first as it was funnier. It was a sad story but told in a humorous way. Although it is a musical there were no real songs with a repeated chorus. There were no ballads or show stoppers. It was more like a dialogue set to music. This surprised me as I normally like Gary Barlow's songs.

We laughed, we cried. A fantastic show and how wonderful to see a cast of older and experienced actors. A pleasant change from so many shows full of teenagers. A great evening. Great singing and great entertainment.

What a fantastic production. Having seen Calendar Girls it was a last minute decision to see this show. So glad I did. The music represented the scene and was sung beautifully- such feeling and emotion came over even before the end of the first song. The ladies were fantastic and I really believed I was in the moment with them. I now can't wait for the tour. If you haven't seen this then you are missing out. Get a ticket if you can

The Girl Musical is a wonderful Musical because you laugh ,you cry and you feel emotionally involved with the story of the musical because it is a true story and because you can feel the passion of the cast playing this story. I literally don't understand why tomorrow it is ending I really don't understand such a fabulous musical.

Another stunning performance from the cast of 'The Girls'! Another standing ovation. I cannot believe it is ending its West End run tomorrow. I hope the details of the tour will be out soon and then I can plan on seeing the musical for a fifth time! Well done to all concerned with the show, it has been an amazing musical. I am sure it will have great success on it's tour.

Being Yorkshire born and bred, I really appreciated the Yorkshire subtleties throughout the show. The original story has been captured brilliantly, with great music, comedy, sadness and reflection. I've known Josh Benson since he was very young and it was a pleasure to see him performing on stage, along with everyone else. Finally, what a pleasant surprise to be joined by a few of the original Calendar Girls - perfect!

Three of us went to see this and one was my 18 year old daughter who absolutely loved it despite being in a theatre full of much older people. It appeals to all ages and I would highly recommend this show. Well done to all.

Had no burning desire to rush out and see this show, but thought that I would as it was closing. So glad that I did. Unlike many new musicals it had a real story and heart. Everyone in the cast was outstanding and the songs, characters and story all great. Such a shame it is closing. Moving and uplifting. Saw the understudy in the role of Annie - wouldn't have known - she was fabulous.

It was absolutely fantastic really enjoyed the original but this was just brilliant. I played Ruth when my local amateur group did this, felt honoured to be lart of it, so thought it would be not as good as I just love Calendar Girls seen the play 3 times but all the cast played their parts so well. If it tours near me will definitely get a group together to see it.

Honestly, not knowing a lot, if anything, about The Calendar Girls, meant I wasn't sure what to expect but this didn't matter. The Girls was fantastic! Amazing acting and singing, I just wanted to get on stage and join in. There were times the whole audience were sucked in and it was silent and other times everyone was crying with laughter, men included! Gutted with myself for leaving it so long to go see it, so my advice get a ticket while you can!!

I enjoyed the musical version of The Calendar Girls. I enjoyed the humor and the songs (especially the opening number). I loved the fact that the women did not have to be beautiful (as they must be in films and on tv).
