I wrote a review already, but after reading other reviews, I just had to come back and write another. I am astonished that anyone could say the storyline was weak or that it's cliche when it's far from the truth. Lin's storyline is multi faceted and multi-dimensional. Saying that it's about family and love is just hitting the surface of the meaning of this musical. It's as much about family as it is a social critique about the lives of latinos in the United States, set in Washington Heights (a prominently latino community). The storyline tackles religion, gentrification, romance, the meaning of "home", culture, and so, so, so much more. This play will leave you thinking after the end. Overall, it's about the daily lives of latin-americans who find themselves stuck between identities. I shed a few tears after Nina's first song since it hit home so much. And it was a delight to see a cast who cared so much about their roles, despite the distance between Washington Heights and London.

This is the second time I have seen the production, and I absolutely love the new cast! The whole cast put absolutely everything into ensuring the show was highly energised and that the audience were entertained throughout. The work performed was slick, with thought taken into consideration for the finer details, such as the same eye line and focus on particular movements, for example. Special mention to Christopher Tendai for his incredible ensemble work, such an amazing performer, with legs for days! Literally couldn't stop watching him! I will definitely be back to see it for a 3rd time in 2017!!!

My family and I loved every minute of this musical. Read the synopsis online before you go, it will make it easier for you to follow the action. Actors were brilliant and most really learned the Spanish language lines well. I had been to see the Railway Children in this theatre and loved the way this former part of Kings Cross station has been temporarily turned to into a theatre before it becomes Google UK's headquarters.

I saw this on the National Tour in the United States and I was a bit apprehensive seeing it in London given the Latino theme. I thought the cast was amazing and the Kings Cross Theatre was a perfect location.

Well worth your time, this show from the genius mind of Lin Manuel Miranda is performed with stunning vitality, skill and attitude by the immensely talented cast. You will leave on a high. I don't know how much longer the run is, I think it ends soon so get in while you can! My only gripe is it didn't start till 8.30 so it was a dash to the last trains at the end...

This is easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. The staging, the choreography, the lighting is just phenomenal. Set to a hip hop and salsa beat "In The Heights" tells the story of a tightly knit community in the Washington Heights. It highlights the importance of dreams and how your family and friends will always be there for you. The themes of the show are universal and everyone will be able to find one character they will be able to relate to in some way. The current cast is superb. Sam Mackay as the bodega owner Usnavi is amazing, he understands the emotional dynamics of the character and presents these in a way to the audience which makes them think. Gabriela Garcia IS Nina to me. Her performance made me laugh and cry, her rendition of "Everything I Know" is so full of heartbreak but a glimmer of hope she makes you believe that she is Nina. Sarah Naudi currently is playing Vanessa and she is incredible. I saw the show a few months prior to this visit and Naudi played Carla, the clumsy hair salon assistant. To see her transform into Vanessa from this role is an amazing step. She gets to show off her incredible vocals, (particularly during 96,000) and the power in her voice is unbelievable. Other stand out performances in the cast are Aimie Atkinson as the sassy Daniella, Arun Blair-Mangat as Benny and Raffaella Covino for her astounding dancing, namely her high kicks! However, the entire cast are so strong you'll be mesmerised regardless. The music for the show was written by the astonishing Lin-Manuel Miranda and the book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. They work incredibly well together and the whole show is so well written. PLEASE! Go and see In The Heights, it is unlike any piece of theatre you have ever seen and are likely to ever experience.

The whole experience, from the cavernous underground bar/shop/waiting area to the intimate theatre and dynamic show was amazing. The music and dance were superb, particularly the 2 main female vocalists. Some of the narrative was confusing but the overall show was electric

Lin-Manuel Miranda's warm-up piece for Hamilton. A distinct world is created, but with the narrative lacking tension the dramatic stakes remain low and the story drags a little. However, this is predominately a song and dance show, and the performers sing their hearts out!

This show is a must see before you buy your 'Hamilton' tickets. This show is the precursor before Miranda's ultimate success. The live band produces some great sounds. Listen out for the awesome trumpet player. The storyline is nothing new but the way Miranda carves the rap rhyming is clever and lacks the often tackey forced approach we hear in many other modern musicals. There's plenty of flow in the action from scene to scene and plenty of energy scenes although it didn't somehow reach the audience to get us up on our feet too. Some casting was weak as was obvious when the mother sings her one number and doesn't have the raunchy belty voice needed to sustain the energy through the song so the 'moment' is unfortunately ruined. Other times some of the seudo Latino accents slipped into various British accents as several cast members were in the middle of their rapping. There's some nice moments between the young lovers but sadly the show lacked reaching the more extreme emotional moments typical of Latino families and friends. Despite all that it's still a great night out and suitable for all ages. A good show to introduce children to modern musicals.

The show was simply fantastic - but the experience of buying the tickets on line via fromtheboxoffice.com aka ingresso.com.uk was awful. Be very careful - their screens are not clear, you're not able to review your purchase well before checkout, there's is not even a 5 minute grace period - so if you make a mistake, you're stuck with a double bill. I loved the show but cannot afford to pay double for each ticket!

Took my 8 and 6tr olds. They loved it. Their favourite scene the opening one or the bar scene. Least favourite - awkward post sex scene on the balcony. (8yrvold embarrassed by this - topless male actor bottomless female actress ) but actually a 12 rating would be good for this. Loved it in its entirety though

We were very pleased with the performance we attended 17 October. The singing was superb, each voice strong and clear. The small size and shape of the theater allowed a great view of the dancing. It was fun to be so close to such great dancers, and we especially enjoyed the good break dancing. We have been to over 60 Broadway shows and this cast and production is equal to any (except Hamilton, sorry).

An explosive combination of Rithm, colour and Latin music frame the most enchanting story about love, family and friendship of latin immigrants. Clever lyrics with the most passionate performance from the most professional cast, will deliver the most exciting performance that will make you feel part of the carnival of joy and emotions that is in front your eyes. You will definitely will see it again!

In the Heights is not your typical musical. It's not as 'posh' as some of Andrew Lloyd Webber work or as pop-music influenced as Mamma Mia or Kinky Boots. It's loud, it's hip, it's Latino-cliche. Something that will appeal to the younger generation of 18 to 25 year olds. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it (am in my mid-30s), even though I wished there were subtitles for the rapping parts of the musical. Hardly understood a word of what some of the actors were rapping about. But kudos to all actors and actresses on stage. Some of the best voices I've heard in awhile. Fantastic dancing and very confident performances. As the stage is open to two sides (the audience is placed on opposite sides of a rectangular stage) it is very engaging musical that really brought Spanish New York to life. It's not necessarily a musical I'd see again (for me it falls into the been there, done that category) as I found the music itself rather ordinary, but it's worth seeing for the performances of the young energetic cast alone.
