In the final hour of 14 April 1912 the RMS Titanic, on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, collidedwith an iceberg and ‘the unsinkable ship’ slowly sank. It was one of the most tragic disasters of the 20th Century.1517 men, women and children lost their lives.

Based on actual characters aboard the greatest ship in the world, Maury Yeston (Nine, Grand Hotel) and Peter Stone’s stunning musical focuses on their hopes and aspirations. Unaware of the fate that awaits them, the Third Class immigrants dream of a better life in America, the newly-enfranchised Second Class dream of achieving the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and the millionaire Barons of the First Class dream of their hegemony lasting forever.

This production of Titanic is perfect in every way. I saw the Broadway production in 1996 (ish) and it became one of my favourite musicals of all times. Although I listen to the CD regularly, I have not had the opportunity to see a professional production since and had some concerns as to how the production would work in the small Charing Cross Theatre. Ultimately there wasn't anything not to be delighted about. The small orchestra gave a wonderful rendition of the score. All of the voices were excellent and some of the roles are not easy to sing. The staging worked brilliantly with great use of the auditorium for some key scenes. Even the effect for the sinking of the ship was simple but hugely effective. I can't recommend this production more highly. It was disappointing to see some empty seats at the performance I attended. Audiences don't know what they are missing. Congratulations to everyone involved for a sensational production.

Brilliant show. Lots of fun in the first act , lots of heart rending drama in the second act . I can see this show transferring to a bigger theatre and staying in the West End for a long time. I loved it!
