Goodnight Mister Tom
Goodnight Mister Tom
The Olivier Award-winning play Goodnight Mister Tom returned to the West End following a critically acclaimed run at the Chichester Festival.
The enchanting and uplifting Goodnight Mister Tom tells the story of young William Beech who is evacuated to the English countryside during the build-up to WWII. Once there, William forges a strong and tender friendship with elderly recluse Tom Oakley and revels in his new life until his mother unexpectedly calls him back to London.
This celebrated adaptation of Michelle Magorian’s internationally adored children’s novel brings all the magic and beauty of her story to the stage. Adapted by the UK’s leading writer and director of stage productions for children, David Wood OBE (The Tiger Who Came For Tea, James and the Giant Peach, Tom’s Midnight Garden), and starring Royal Shakespeare Company regular David Troughton (Tom Oakley), Goodnight Mister Tom is a touching, captivating and inspiring theatre experience.

A great performance, a story very well portrayed. Myself and my daughters thoroughly enjoyed it, tissues were needed to dry our tears. Well worth watching.

Powerfully performed and wonderfully staged, it was my favourite book as a child and this did it such justice. It was moving and beautifully acted, 'Mr Tom' was performed so well by David Troughton, just as I imagined my 'Mr Tom', without over sentimentalising which made it all the more emotional. It was so cleverly staged, the set, the scenery, and the puppeteering for Mr Tom's dog was genius. I brought my husband who never knew the book and he thought it was one of the best plays he has seen in years. I now need to bring my children before it ends. It is a 'must see' event.

I was so impressed with the children's acting, they were really professional and the whole play was thoroughly enjoyable. Lovely old and cosy theatre. Staff so helpful. We sat in Row Q 9 and 10. Plenty of leg room and good view of stage. We were fortunate to have spare seats next to us so plenty of elbow room too.

Saw this play with my two grandchildren aged 9 yrs and 7rs old. Absolutely loved it. They thought Zach (Sonny Kirby) was brilliant and Tom (Freddy Hawkins) was amazing. They were warned to expect different aspects to the book and the film but were not disappointed.
