What’s MAMMA MIA! about?
Set on a gorgeous Greek island, hit musical MAMMA MIA! tells the story of Sophie, a bride-to-be who wants nothing more than for her father to walk her down the aisle. That’s going to be tricky though, because Sophie doesn’t know who her father is.
Sophie’s fiercely independent mum, Donna, had three relationships which ever-so-slightly overlapped. So any of three men could be her father. Without her mother’s knowledge, Sophie invites all three to her wedding. What could possibly go wrong?
MAMMA MIA! Opened in London way back in 1999, and since then it’s played in three different West End Theatres (The Prince Edward Theatre, Prince of Wales Theatre and currently the Aldwych Theatre). The stage show has now been seen by over 65 million people, in more than 50 countries across six continents and has also spawned two of the highest-grossing box office movies of all time. But nothing beats seeing MAMMA MIA! Live on stage.
MAMMA MIA! was brought to the stage by the female-led team of producer Judy Cramer, writer Catherine Johnson and director Phyllida Lloyd. The show is inspired by a catalogue of hit songs by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus from Swedish supergroup, ABBA. Joyous, uplifting, and with a feelgood soundtrack that’ll be going round in your head (and your Spotify) for months, MAMMA MIA! is the West End show will have you keep coming back like a boomerang!

Five Things You Might not know about ABBA
We all love ABBA, but how much do you really know about Sweden’s most famous export? Here are five little-known ABBA facts:
1. ABBA’s costumes were designed to look outrageous as a way to save money on tax bills. Swedish law decreed that clothes were tax-deductible if it could be proved they were not ‘day wear’.
2. ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 in Brighton, despite the UK jury awarding in ‘null points’. Scandalous!
3. In a TV interview, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant let slip that he had once visited a sex club with ABBA’s Benny and Björn to escape Agnetha and Frida!
4. ABBA were so massive in Australia that their 1976 TV special got higher ratings than the moon landings!
5. Most shockingly…one quarter of Swedish supergroup ABBA is actually Norwegian! Frida was born in Bjørkåsen, Norway in 1945.

The singing was fantastic. Loved the show. Was sat in Balcony and quite disappointed to see behind scenery and actors/actresses moving around there. Didn't realise how steep the seating would be. DO NOT sit up there if you are frightened of heights!!! Staircase is steep too.
Excellent evening, the show was amazing as expected. Still very fresh and my granddaughters first experience of a show! She loved it as we all did. Amazing cast and vibrancy of the music takes us all to another place.

Fun, funny, joyous and energetic singing and dancing, a really enjoyable show for all, especially ABBA fans (and who isn’t an ABBA fan when the party’s in full swing?). While the whole cast does a great job Donna is particularly good, her Winner Takes It All bringing real drama and emotion to the story.
