What’s Mamma Mia! about?
Set on a gorgeous Greek island, hit musical Mamma Mia! tells the story of Sophie, a bride-to-be who wants nothing more than for her father to walk her down the aisle. That’s going to be tricky though, because Sophie doesn’t know who her father is.
Sophie’s fiercely independent mum, Donna, had three relationships which ever-so-slightly overlapped. So any of three men could be her father. Without her mother’s knowledge, Sophie invites all three to her wedding. What could possibly go wrong?
Mamma Mia! Opened in London way back in 1999, and since then it’s played in three different West End Theatres (The Prince Edward Theatre, Prince of Wales Theatre and currently the Aldwych Theatre). The stage show has now been seen by over 65 million people, in more than 50 countries across six continents and has also spawned two of the highest-grossing box office movies of all time. But nothing beats seeing Mamma Mia! Live on stage.
Mamma Mia! was brought to the stage by the female-led team of producer Judy Cramer, writer Catherine Johnson and director Phyllida Lloyd. The show is inspired by a catalogue of hit songs by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus from Swedish supergroup, ABBA. Joyous, uplifting, and with a feelgood soundtrack that’ll be going round in your head (and your Spotify) for months, Mamma Mia! is the West End show will have you keep coming back like a boomerang!

Five Things You Might not know about ABBA
We all love ABBA, but how much do you really know about Sweden’s most famous export? Here are five little-known ABBA facts:
1. ABBA’s costumes were designed to look outrageous as a way to save money on tax bills. Swedish law decreed that clothes were tax-deductible if it could be proved they were not ‘day wear’.
2. ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 in Brighton, despite the UK jury awarding in ‘null points’. Scandalous!
3. In a TV interview, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant let slip that he had once visited a sex club with ABBA’s Benny and Björn to escape Agnetha and Frida!
4. ABBA were so massive in Australia that their 1976 TV special got higher ratings than the moon landings!
5. Most shockingly…one quarter of Swedish supergroup ABBA is actually Norwegian! Frida was born in Bjørkåsen, Norway in 1945.

“Catherine Johnson's witty and ingenious script weaves the famous ABBA songs around characters you care about. At the end the whole audience is on its feet and swaying blissfully along to the hits. Fun, funny, joyous and energetic singing and dancing, a really enjoyable show for all, especially ABBA fans (and who isn’t an ABBA fan when the party’s in full swing?). While the whole cast does a great job Donna is particularly good, her Winner Takes It All bringing real drama and emotion to the story.
We are group of 7 when we attended the show, all of us stood up and danced letting ourselves get carried away with the Mama Mia vibes. It is a feel good show. Highly recommended.

Fun, touching and very talented actresses and actors.
This is a fantastic good time fun show. The production is amazing and the musical performances outstanding - a real treat. I can't wait to see it again!
Excellent, the actress who played Donna deserves a raise
Best musical I've ever been too... didn't want it to end..2 and a half hours of 5 star energetic entertainment.
Fabulous from start to finish! I got the tickets for my 8 year old niece’s birthday. She smiled, sang and laughed the whole way through! She said it’s her favourite show yet (she’s only been to 3! But it’s going to take a lot to top it!) 150% recommended.
Amazing ! Best one to see , back next month !!!!
The overall experience was great, from the entrance to exit. Recommended show for those who enjoy ABBA songs. The show itself is good, but I enjoyed some other musicals in London more, simply because this stage is quite simple with the setup and I preferred other storylines a bit more.
This was my second viewing of the show albeit about eight years apart. Still a great show and entertaining cast, real escapism for a few hours and as always the finale is great entertainment and fitting end.
I bought tickets as a Christmas present to my mum. We went February 5th and it was so much fun. We sang along to everything and enjoyed the whole thing. :))
It was just like the film... Fantastic from start to finish.. the acting, sinfing and dancing was brilliant! Definately recommend this show it was amazing!!!
The cast recruited, the versatile background scene, the faultless ABBA and electric felt throughout the performance. This is one show you should not miss. Still in Awe.
Amazing best musical I have seen had me singing all the way through
Beautiful, professional, breathtaking.
