To celebrate the Hall’s 150th anniversary, Matthew Bourne and his acclaimed dance company New Adventures bring their multi-award-winning production of The Car Man to the Royal Albert Hall for the very first time.
A dance-thriller based on Bizet’s beloved Carmen, The Car Man will be completely reimagined for the gladiatorial arena of the Royal Albert Hall, adding a frisson of danger as the dancers perform throughout the auditorium amid stage designs by Olivier and Tony award-winner Lez Brotherston.
Featuring an expanded company of 65 dancers and musicians, a live orchestra and epic new designs, these 14 performances of The Car Man are a unique opportunity to see this extraordinary production as you’ve never seen it before. The 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a greasy garage-diner in 1960s America where a small-town’s dreams are shattered by the arrival of a handsome stranger. Fuelled by heat and desire, the inhabitants are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge.
Matthew Bourne’s vivid storytelling combines with one of the most passionately dramatic scores ever written, with musical arrangements by Terry Davies featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (after Bizet’s Carmen), to create a dance event like no other.

Mathew Bourne carman Went to see this show at the Royal Albert hall last night and it was amazing staff at the hall were very helpful and considerate and could not do enough for us being elderly great venue thanks everyone

On the hottest day so far this year there was some apprehension about travelling to our first exciting outing since Covid. The RAH was a wonderful venue, the staff extraordinarily helpful and kind. Our seats were in an area with air conditioning, the performance breathtaking in every way. One cannot give sufficient applause for all that skill which went into producing and performing. Personally I have looked forward to being in an audience for years but always missed out until now.

An inspiring performance that transported you.I was totally engrossed for the whole performance. At no time did you wander off but stayed rivited to each characters' story's. The ensemble work was amazing. A show not to be missed.

We loved this production. First saw it at Sadlers Wells which was fantastic but Albert Hall adds a whole new dimension. Great live music and fabulous energetic dancing, so emotional and really holds you in it spell. Could watch this again and again

Great show performed seamlessly. We were totally encapsulted from start to finish. We didn't know the story beforehand but picked it up as it went along. The venue was fabulous. The seat proximity to the stage was perfect.
