My Fair Lady reviews
We were looking forward to this having booked before Christmas. Sad to say we found the dialogue very hard to hear, despite knowing the script. Costumes and set were fabulous. Sadly underwhelmed by Eliza Doolittle. Beautiful singing but not star quality. Ms Redgrave was very tentative, clearly not confident on her lines and most of her dialogue in the Ascot scene her face was hidden by her hat! Choreography for ‘I’m getting Married in the morning’ was a mess. The audience wanted a lift but sadly it was just too manic without focus. Best number was Ascot Gavotte. Fabulous company singing and harmonies. Maybe the vein is too big for a play with music. We got the train home and the conversations with others who saw the show were similar. Wanted it to be good but a musical like this needs a Stella cast. Sadly felt all principals were not up to the job. Sorry.
Sumptuous sets, lavish customs, great ensemble, fabulous music, divine singing, main cast very much brought this show alive !!! Five stars all the way
