What’s Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical about?

Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical follows the story of Bob Marley from his youth in the hills of rural Jamaica to international stardom. The show’s title comes from a song written by Marley and Peter Tosh that appeared on The Wailers’ 1973 album, Burnin’. His musical gift and deep sense of spirituality combined to make Marley a global icon, dominating popular culture for over a decade. Bob Marley’s belief and determination saw him bring a unique fusion of Reggae, Ska and Rocksteady to the world, changing music forever. More than a singer and gifted writer, Bob Marley was a musical prophet. His gospel was love and unity.

With access to Marley’s entire platinum-selling back catalogue, the multi award-winning creative team of Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, Rocketman) and Clint Dyer (deputy Artistic Director of the NT) have created an theatrical masterpiece with Olivier Award nominee Arinzé Kene bringing a deep sense of spirituality to the role of Bob Marley.

Euphoric, rebellious and uplifting, this talented company of performers fuse with the world’s greatest reggae musicians to bring to life this triumphant tale of passion, political upheaval and progress from Trenchtown, Jamaica all the way to the heart of London’s West End.

‘One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain’
Bob Marley
