What is Jersey Boys about?
This Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award winning smash hit musical tells the real-life story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. With an unforgettable sound, Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi took the musical world by storm – and radio stations just couldn’t get enough of them.
Yet each ‘season’ tells the story their own way…and what a story! From the streets of New Jersey to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, their backstage relationship was dynamite. Surviving prison and run-ins with the mafia the Four Seasons rose from backing vocalists to become international music icons, thanks to Frankie’s unique falsetto vocals and Bob Gaudio’s song writing gift.
Yet soon, success proves to be harder to handle than obscurity ever was. Jealousy, divorces and bad debts put a strain on the band – and all their relationships. But while their private lives fall apart, their musical legend only grows. Their story may be heart breaking, but their musical is totally uplifting – and you’ll be singing the songs all the way home!
Fall in love with The Four Seasons all over again. Book your tickets for Jersey Boys at the Trafalgar Theatre in London today!
Jersey Boys - the songs
Jersey Boys is packed full of classic 1960s hits, spanning the entire career of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. They include Beggin’, Sherry, Walk Like A Man, December, 1963 (Oh What a Night), Big Girls Don’t Cry, My Eyes Adored You, Let’s Hang On (To What We’ve Got), Bye Bye Baby, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Working My Way Back to You, Fallen Angel, Rag Doll and Who Loves You.
Jersey Boys awards
This ground breaking show was nominated for an incredible seven Drama Desk Awards in the US. Eight Tony Award nominations followed, winning four including Best Musical. The soundtrack also won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. Jersey Boys then backed up this success in the UK, winning the Olivier Award for Best Musical.
Five Fun Facts about Jersey Boys
1. The show is divided into four parts – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Each of the Four Seasons gets to narrate their own part of the show.
2. The Four Seasons’ choreography definitely improved over the years. The band developed iconic moves – but see if you can spot the ‘gorilla dancing’ in early scenes!
3. Oscar-winning actor Joe Pesci (Goodfellas) played a pivotal role in the Band’s formation – New Jersey was obviously the place to be!
4. Frankie Valli sings the title number on the Grease movie soundtrack. He was given the choice to either sing Grease (written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees), or to appear as Teen Angel in Beauty School Dropout.
5. When the Jersey Boys movie was directed by Clint Eastwood, he fought for the main roles to be cast from theatre actors rather than movie ‘names’. And he won!
What critics have said about the stage version of Jersey Boys
“the list of wonderful songs and hits they created (their first three singles went to number one) is prodigious” The Guardian
“singers are allowed to fly with the magnificently catchy musical material” The Independent
“showcases an energizing concert of toe-tapping pop classics” Variety

Took my Mum to see the show as she loved them, I don’t know much about Jersey Boys to be honest! The show was amazing, the content and format great. You don’t need to know much about them to enjoy the show, packed with information, funny, but the singing was beyond anything either of us had expected. The guys were fantastic. Perfect show. Couldn’t fault it and would watch again in a heartbeat.

Very sadly there was a problem with production on this day, which was clearly evident. This was not quite the performance that you would expect from a London production. Not polished at all.

The theatre is small and intimate. The view of the stage was good from the back and sound was really good. The cast were really good and put on a fantastic show. The songs and story were not spoilt by audience joining in which gets my approval as so often it spoils the show.

We thoroughly enjoyed the show, the songs & the atmosphere. The cast was excellent, Al the songs brought back memories of our youth. Highly recommend but would have liked to have a longer singalong with the cast at the end with a medley of the songs, still a brilliant time

The true story about Franki Vali (or is it Valy 😉) and "his" Four Seasons. The guy in the role of Franki Vali is almost 100% of the time on stage and singing a lot: hats off!! The only difficulty in the musical is that some actors play different roles. You got to keep your eyes open. The Trafalgar Theatre is a rather small, but renovated Theatre. Nice chairs, enough legspace.

Took my girlfriend as an early birthday present and we both loved every minute of the show. The cast were amazing, voices were incredible. The humour was unexpected but just added to the entire experience. The musicians were amazing too. All in all it was a wonderful way to spend the evening and we both left with the songs in our heads all night.

Great enthusiast of west end plays and musical with a very discerning ear and eye so not too easy to please. This is an excellent production with hugely talented cast that kept everyone engaged the whole way through. I truly couldn’t believe that so many concerned are in their early days of theatre. The role of Frankie Valli was played to an outstanding level of excellence. Definitely worth seeing.

The theatre was small but comfy. The performance was very lacking in both singing and acting with 80% of the show being shouting, arguing and abusive language. The singing was very mediocre. We were very disappointed. We saw the Jersey boys playing at a venue locally. They were far better musically! I expected far better from a London production!
