Everybody’s Talking About Jamie - Fairy tales really do come true!
What’s Everybody’s Talking About Jamie about?
Once upon a time, there was a 16-year-old boy who had a secret. But this boy wanted to tell the whole world…and soon his secret became a West End Musical! Inspired by a true story, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is the award-winning hit musical about a boy who wants to be a drag queen.
Jamie New is sixteen and lives on a council estate in Sheffield where he doesn’t quite fit in. Even though he’s terrified about the future, Jamie knows deep down that he’s destined for greatness. Supported by his brilliant, loving mum and surrounded by loyal friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie delivers a simple message that’s more relevant today than ever – never be afraid to be yourself.
The show now returns to the West End with a twenty-five strong company and a nine-piece band that will ‘sweep you away on a tide of mischief, warmth and exuberance’ (Financial Times).

The performances were very good but felt the language was a bit too strong and unecessary at times. Nevertheless we enjoyed the show ever though we couldn't see very much of the stage

This story starts in a class of teenagers and blossoms into many daily relationship issues that are adult themed as life grows up and we deal with prejudices in life in all cultures. It has alot of funny bits along the way and fabulous singing by the cast. My daughter and me thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just brilliant! Singing, & in particular some of the dancing exceptionally good. Tackled some quite hard subjects especially bullying, when you almost wanted to BOO as so appauling. Jamie was portrayed amazingly well, everyone was rooting for him from the start to just be himself. The Asian girl was tremendous in everyway. Well done for such a production, you came out feeling so uplifted and hoping some of the prejudices described will in the future just fade away and everyone be who ever they want to be! xx

This musical should be seen by all secondary school pupils. It challenges bigotry and racism. This would enable them to grow up more united and embracing than their elders who should be ashamed.

The cast and the props were very good and there was a story line with a moral. But was it necessary to have so much heavy swearing? I took my grandaughters aged 13 and 15 and felt quite uncomfortable. Did other reviews warn of bad language? Had I known I would not have taken them to see the show.

What an excellent performance by all. Hugely over exceeded our excitable expectations. This show is placed in a beautiful venue and held a packed audience to maintain an individual performance feel. The talent and diversity of skills through comedy, vocals and different dance styles is a credit to all involved in the production.

Saw it for the fourth time and it was also the fourth time seeing the alternative Jamie, an amazing young actor Luke Latchman. This story is amazing and as someone who used to work in education I believe all young people should see this show. It makes you laugh and cry. Such a moving story. I have since watched the original bbc3 documentary and the show portrays the real Jamie wonderfully

Jamie was not played by Layton Williams when we went to see the musical. The stand-in’s singing was very poor. The music was very loud so protect your ears if you decide to go see it. The English is at times hard to understand if it is not your first language. The dancing is comparable to what you would see in an average school play. We left after the first half. This simply does not meet the standard you would expect from a West End musical.
