Winner of 5 Olivier Awards, including 'Best New Play', Life of Pi is based on one of the most extraordinary and best-loved works of fiction – the smash hit adaptation of an epic journey of endurance and hope.
After a cargo ship sinks in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, there are five survivors stranded on a lifeboat - a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, a Royal Bengal tiger, and a sixteen year-old boy named Pi. Time is against them, nature is harsh, who will survive?
Long after the curtain falls, “Life of Pi will make you believe in the power of theatre” (The Times).
Life of Pi reviews
Beautiful and breath taking performance. Puppeteers were fantastic and you really felt you were watching a live animal! Stage sets were so clever too with a boat appearing almost out of nowhere. Actor that played Pi was captivating.
Great story line. Very original animal puppetry, funny and sad at the same time. Money well spent.
Brilliant, Outstanding and truly a visual spectacle.
I had read the book and was unsure how this would be portrayed on stage. All I can say is it certainly didn’t disappoint! The special effects were so realistic & so clever how the animals manoeuvred. Their movements & habits had been closely monitored before the making of the play. A definite recommendation from me 😊
This production was of the highest quality. The actors were superb and the whole production left you totally absorbed and sitting on the edge of your sests
Great stagecraft. Excellent pupetteers and physicality of the actors and movement of props make this a great theatrical experience.
Funny., serious, great puppetry, brilliant sets
Nice play - loved the acting skills and the theatre set
Really enjoyed the show. The effects of sea etc were brilliant and also puppetry.
Absolutely fantastic cast and production - amazing set. I was spellbound from start to finish.
We loved the book and the movie …but this stage play does not match. Puppeteers were distracting and too many of them. Surely only 2 needed for Richard Walker? Apart from Pi the acting was mediocre. Overall disappointing.
Excellent show highly recommend it.
I had heard good reviews but like to make my own mind. So glad we went, it's absolutely brilliant. Really well done, special effects were great. Would definitely recommend
A philosophical story brilliantly brought to the stage. Theatrical production at its best!
Enjoyed the show immensely. The sets and effects were wonderful and was very impressed by the animation Would recommend the show to all theatregoers
The show was excellent! The effects were so clever! Beautifully done! The actors were amazing ! It really transforms you into the life of pi !!!
Incredible show! Stage design is very clever and awe inspiring. The actor who plays Pi is phenominal and the animals and scenery are beautiful. Perhaps the best thing I have ever seen in the west end. I cannot recommend it highly enough
All aspects of show .the cast were amazing. The sets and props were amazing. And pi himself was truly amazing
Wow! Just wow! The staging, the puppetry, and the acting were all outstanding. The audience was on its feet for the ovation with roars of approval thrown in. You will NOT be disappointed.
If you've read the book or not, this is one show you should make a priority. If you know the story or not, you will be dazzeled. 6 out of 5 stars.
Last minute booking. Hadn’t read the book or seen the film so went not knowing what to expect. Wonderful. Amazing effects, amazing acting. Husband came with me even though he is not a great theatre lover and he was spellbound.
The lead actor got into my soul. I believed in Pi totally. His take on the two versions of his journey, food for thought. Puppetry was amazing as expected from butterflies and fish, to the tiger. Turtle needs a special mention.
Great sea scenery and brilliant show.
Hiran Abesekara was excellent, really deserve the best actor.
Excellent props the boat ,water and rain effect was amazing so so clever. The movement and animal noises were also amazing.
I was amazed by how props were used to. Bring slice the boat scenes at sea . Great show full of wit , and great acting really moving takes you to a new dimension
The visuals were amazing..its humour..its message..its magic..Stunning!
It far exceeded any expectations I might have had. Brilliant. The cast were all exceptional, as was the stage, lighting (exceptional) and sound. The “puppets” and their handlers were breathtaking.
Excellent . The puppetry very clever and the visual Graphics were beautiful .?
Very enjoyable. The actor playing Pi is amazing - he is in every scene, often without dialogue. You forget the animals are puppets and the stage converting into a boat and soft trap doors is brilliant. Richard Parker is fantastic!
Amazing show, fun of colour fun and sadness great story. Fun for all ages, highly recommended.
Watched from one of the ‘cheaper seats’ but still excellent view. Thoroughly enjoyed the show. I had the understudy to Pi, and he was brilliant, delivering a nuanced, convincing and funny performance. An inventive design gives extra sparkle and colour, with a wonderful use of the space. The puppets were brilliantly brought to life by the puppeteers who skilfully gave them character all of their own. A very good piece of theatre, a great story that’s loyal to the source material. Recommend.
The show was stunning! The actors were incredible.
We booked last minute for this show. Hadn't read the book but wasn't a problem to follow the storyline. How glad we were that we chose Life of Pi. What a beautiful theatre and what an amazing production! Hiran Abeysekera is brilliant as Pi and the rest of the cast were all top class actors. We were mesmerised by the puppetry, so cleverly done, the set was amazing and captivated us from beginning to end. This show is a must see!
Love the stage. Actors are great.
This show is a fantastic show. Great acting and the storyline makes you think !!! The puppetry is wonderful, so much so that you forget that the humans are there moving them. The stage set is so good it all flows together between scenes. A great show to see.
The dramatic staging and brilliant animatronics make this a real theatrical experience. Pi holds everything together with his boundless energy and inspiring journey. The ensemble actors are not very well rounded characters and some of the dialogue is not convincing. The ideas in the book are rather simplified but the overall effect is memorable.
Loved it! Loved the special effects!! The story had all the salient points. Acting was brilliant.
What a fantastic production. The puppetry was stunning and really brought the animals to life. I laughed and cried, and thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful spectacle.
Wish they could add a song inbetween
Thoroughly enjoyable! Fascinating to see the animals come to life with their brilliant movements - utterly believable. The stage and scenery were also amazing in alternating between the boat and the hospital. ...and PI! What can I say? So energised, animated and energetic! Bravo!! Thank you!
This has now become our joint top show - joint with the Lion King. Outstandingly good production of an amazing story.
It was just superb! magical, beautiful, great performances & costumes & decors I would recommended definitely
A brilliant show !!
Wow….. if you think the film moves you, you’ll be left lost for words after watching this truly amazing awesome production. To be able to bring the story to life in this way is unbelievable - has to be seen to be believed. Characters, staging, story telling all tremendous. Thank you for making this even possible.
