Absolutely wonderful few hours spent here on Sunday! First of all held in a church ( cool!!) secondly just such a clever and unique way of showing art to even the most uncultured ( my partner) .. Art just comes alive!, it really does! And then just for a measly cost of a coffee £3.00 you can get transported to a virtual Van Gogh Land of discovery!, incredibly amazing and thoroughly enjoyable! The best few quid I have spent in a long time!,,,
We went to the Van Gogh experience in Leicester. Overall it was a great experience. Good points - The Immersive Experience was fantastic. I don't how it was done but it was enlightening and relaxing. We sat in the deck chairs and took in the film all around us. The music added to the whole experience. It was absorbing. The VR experience which you pay £3.00 extra is worth every penny. My parents (both in the 80s) absolutely loved it as did we and it must have been very funny hearing all our comments whilst we were in the VR. Bad points - The church was very cold. Whilst sitting watching the Immersive experience you get very cold and despite heaters being on throughout the building they were inadequate for the size of the church. The other thing that was not that well designed was the background information on Van Gogh which was on the walls as you walked in was very high and not easy to read. Not quite sure why it was so high. Aside from these two points it was very good and would certainly recommend it.
This was most enjoyable and you really must pay the extra £3 for the VR part.
Excellent experience - was not expecting to be so emotionally moved by it all. The 3D headset experience was phenomenal! Well worth the trip.
We are so lucky to have this in Leicester. Don't miss it, the whole thing is great but especially the immersive experience which is spellbinding.
I really enjoyed this experience and came away with a much greater understanding of Van Gogh and his work. The immersive room was wonderful and the VR part is well worth the extra £3.00.
So much better than we ever expected. Actually said "wow" which is rare for me! Venue perfect for this event. Very well organised staff were lovely. Please go before the experience ends - you definitely won't regret it. Oh - plenty of room, not overcrowded so didn't feel at risk from 'you know what'
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I learnt lots about Van Gogh I didn't know before. I sat through the immersive experience twice as there was so much to look at. Brilliant! The highlight was the 3D Arles day. This was unbelievable and left me with lovely thoughts about France. Such inspiration too. I liked especially the quotes which I will take away with me.
This was a really informative and different exhibition. I would recommend it
An amazing experience. Didn't want to leave. Just wanted to allow myself to submerge further and further into the dream. Fantastic venue here in Leicester as well.
4 of us came not really knowing what to expect. We were blown away by all of it especially the immersive experience in the big hall. We could have sat in there for hours; it was so emotional and inspiring. Schoolchildren sat in with us and we were amazed how they sat mesmerised by it all. Unfortunately we didn't get on to the virtual reality part because the students were so immersed in it and enjoying themselves. However it not detract from this amazing experience for us.
The amount of work that must've fine into the exhibition was incredible. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very impressive. I had no idea what it would be like but the exhibition exceeded my wildest dreams - really fabulous!
Loved this x
Thoroughly enjoyed this different viewpoint exhibition on Van Gogh. Nice information, although I always prefer not to be told what I see. Loved the video installations very clever and amazing in the church space. you could sit anywhere and loved it when the paintings came to life. Very good that it was Van Gogh own words (from his letters) that filled the space as well. Good for all ages.
Very enjoyable insight into Van Gogh’s life. Very impressed by both the immersive & the VR experiences. Would highly recommend.
I really great experience. The only thing I would criticise is that you had to walk back through section 3 and 1 to get to the immersive experience in section 5. Which made a bit of a bottleneck and meant you had to walk in front of people. The immersive experience was a bit too long (sitting in a cold church). But apart from that it was great
Well worth the visit - really enjoyable event
It took the best part of an hour to find the venue in a freezing cold city centre. No signage or clues and the sat nav placed us half a mile away. We asked for assistance and ended up at another wrong venue before eventually finding the Church almost in darkness. Our phones had both died so we couldn’t produce our e tickets and the organisers database was not linked to the third party agent from whom we bought the tickets. We eventually got in but by then we were so fed up and cold we just wanted to go home. Some interesting facts about Van Gogh and a light show ? That’s it - an extra £3 for the VR experience? No thanks. Save your time and money and visit a proper exhibition of Van Goghs work at a proper museum.
Although Van Gogh never fails- I would say that the exhibition could have been better presented. I didnt feel that charging for the 3d experience was at all acceptable after paying for a full ticket per person. Most of the publicity is about the 3 d experience which is not included in the ticket. Although the 3d experience is perhaps 3£ on top as a matter of principle it shouldnt be charged. So all in all I really dont rank this exhibition very high. Sorry.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience at the Van Gogh experience. Would highly recommend
Well worth going!
Captivating, breathtaking experience. Highly recommend.
Took my reluctant husband. He, like me, was absolutely blown away by the experience. Paying an extra £3 for the virtual reality tour of nine paintings was SO worth it. I can't recommend this experience enough. BRILLIANT!
This was my second visit, this time I came with friends. Totally blown away again. It’s a full on sensory experience and explosion of colour. We felt we experienced the life and struggle of Van Gogh and were taken through all his art work in one morning. Sensitive, emotional and inspiring. Loved, loved, loved it. Not done VR before and this topped off the exhibition. Well worth the £3.00. Congratulations to the producers and designers.
Brilliant. A unique experience. Helped me gain a greater understanding of Van Gogh. I really did feel that I was immersed into his paintings.
I visited this show with my friend and we so enjoyed it. It really is beautiful and mesmerising, providing a memorable insight into the mind and art of this great master. The exhibit has been designed to appeal to all ages. We found it very impressive that the digital projection in the large room is so well tailored to the space. Don’t miss out on the virtual reality experience at the end which is an extra fee £4.50 on the door, this too is quite remarkable
Well presented experience which was very enjoyable, giving insight of VGs, works and life but brought to virtuality within the VR head-set experience while showing how images of Arles were planted in his head. Tne immersive experience totally flooded the hall with the transformations of his more popular works
Was not sure what to expect from the exhibition. But it definitely exceeded my expectations. The church setting was perfect. Visually it was stunning the musical score fitting perfectly. It brought across Van Gogh's incredible artwork and tortured soul . The virtual reality was also an unexpected bonus and well worth pursuing. I would recommend the whole experience to anyone.
Excellent Wonderful digital show Granddaughter enjoyed the experience. VR. and drawing.
This is well worth a visit. The vases video was mesmerising, and the immersive experience was rather beautiful, and very clever. The overall favourite element (including for our less-than-engaged teen) was the VR at the end. Absolutely well worth the trip in itself.
Really enjoyed the whole experience, from the time we entered to the time we left. There is a lot to see even before you enter the immersive experience itself which is amazing, and the VR (virtual reality) experience is more than worth the extra £3!!!
This is a wonderful experience that should not be missed by anyone who appreciates art. The virtual reality extra at £3 per person is well worth it. Excellent value for money. Brilliant for all ages.
What a fabulous idea . Great images . I enjoyed it very much , although I would have enjoyed it more on my own ! Not possible obviously , but I was there with dozens of tiny noisy children in the school holidays . It did seem like it was designed and directed towards children as a fun interactive first introduction to art , rather than a serious or beautiful all encompassing multi sensory immersion in Van Gogh as I was hoping .
Mesmerising , totally immersive, brilliant!
I took my 9 year old son to All Saint’s Church in Leicester to see this. A great fusion of his work projected through the medium of Science. It was small enough to swallow up Vincent’s personal life and his visions of colour. The VR experience is a must and this really drew in the attention of my son. A lovely setting in the church as a back drop for his work. If left a lasting impression.
An incredible use of state of the technology to showcase van gogh’s life and works. We loved every part of it. The kids were mesmerised by the immersive experience which was akin to being in the paintings and seeing them come to life in a unique way. I loved ‘the vase’! We paid extra for the VR at the end and it was worth every penny. Not to be missed!
A feast for the eyes heart and mind
Really enjoyed this experience as it was unlike anything I had ever done before. Couldn't believe something so good was in our local city. Great for children too. Would even go and do it again! Definitely worth paying the extra to do the VR experience too.
Loved the Virtual reality aspect.. That was fab
The Van Gogh experience is well worth seeing it is amazing. I highly recommend, the price is very good and I advise people to pay on the day the £3 for the VR it is absolutely brilliant . You can watch the experience at your leisure which is very relaxing . The whole experience is breathtaking.
An impressive and very colourful immersive journey through Van Gogh's life. Would highly recommend the Virtual Reality feature as a memorable conclusion to the 'experience'. It was great to see positive use being made of the disused building. The only slight criticism would be the difficulty in hearing the commentary on the 'Starry Night' documentary due to the volume of the neighbouring 'Immersive Experience'.
Whoever thought up and produced this ... THANK YOU It was so lovely to enjoy the experience of colour, changing colour and retain the integrity of Van Gogh’s paintings It was an insightful presentation of the artist and his life and work It was very memorable and inspiring. Where are the paints and brushes ? I want to paint!
The whole experience took us an hour and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The Pictures were all around us and we really didn't know where to look next. I really liked how some of them seemed to be moving and the cascading water effect was excellent. Well worth the money.
To be taken to the heart of a man so full of wisdom and a sense of the beauty of nature was moving indeed. To have it presented in such an imaginative way is superb. We hope it will be seen by thousands who will be enriched by the beauty of the earth.
Really enjoyed the immersive experience with my Drawing Room art class friends yesterday. It was so therapeutic and relaxing - what a great way to learn about an artist and his art. The Virtual Reality walk through his life was absolutely brilliant - a must see and do!
A stunning exhibition from start to finish. Technology meets art invites the visitor to look into the life, work and environment that influenced the artist. Accessible to all ages as it is visually spectacular and includes activities for children. It has to rate one of the best exhibitions I've ever visited. A very well done to all the team involved in putting it together.
The actual experience was lovely but when we got to the virtual reality part the system had gone down and there were only 3 young people in charge , you could see they were panicking, one was on the phone to a technician, no one was keeping us informed as to what was happening. We were queuing for a long time and thought it was mended and then broke again . It spoilt the experience , not because we couldn’t enjoy the end part but by all the waiting around . We needed to be kept informed not just left to queue .
Utterly wonderful! We had an age range from 20 months old to 54 yrs with a few 20 somethings mixed in and it enchanted us all. Relaxing and delightful - something for everyone from the look and learn videos to the mock up hands on bedroom, the projection experience room and the virtual reality opportunity. Informative and engaging - friendly, helpful staff. An absolutely delightful day. Brilliant!
It was excellent, brilliantly done. We are from Nottingham and have told all our friends. The venue we found difficult to find. We asked 4 or 5 people in Leicester and they had never heard of the church or the event. So a few more people know it now. Please buy the 3D experience extra as that was excellent.
