Young Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein
Legendary filmmaker and comedian Mel Brooks (The Producers, Blazing Saddles) brings his iconic monster musical comedy Young Frankenstein to life on stage in an all-singing, all-dancing, all-laughing musical collaboration with Tony-award winning Broadway director and choreographer Susan Stroman.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Hadley Fraser) - pronounced ‘Fronk-en-steen’ - inherits a castle in Transylvania leading him to fulfil his grandfather's legacy by bringing a corpse back to life. With help and hindrance from hunchback henchman Igor, housekeeper Frau Blucher (Lesley Joseph) & buxom assistant Inga (Summer Strallen), his experiment yields madcap success and monstrous consequences. You’ll be puttin’ on the ritz and reeling in the aisles at the funniest show in town!

The show was fantastic! And filthy! Not necessarily a bad thing but I was surprised at the amount of innuendo and legs akimbo. I love the movie and the differences between the film and the show were many but it was great! I was happy that some of the funniest lines in the film were kept but not all of them fared well on the stage. I would recommend this show heartily with a “NOT FOR CHILDREN OR SHOCKABLE FOLKS” caveat. Fantastic performance!!

I think Young Frankenstein was the highlight of my trip to London! I have not laughed so much in AGES!!! The script was amazing, and the acting, singing and dancing were truly fantastic. Hadley Fraser, Cory English, Dianne Pilkington, Summer Strallen and Nic Greenshields each brought something special and amazing to the stage, and Lesley Joseph . . . WOW!!! Her first song, that is something I will never forget!! Sooooo funny!! A fantastic night, thank you!!!!!

This was a last minute decision that I am so glad I made. Once I got over the disappointment that Nic G wasn’t playing the monster. He used to perform at my local theatre in Ilford, I enjoyed an excellent evening in row BB. Close enough to enjoy outstanding acting, singing and dancing as well as the hilarious script. Lesley Joseph was fantastic in the role. I hope her next panto is local to me. Now I need another ticket to see the other monster. Thank you all.

A slick, witty production. Hadley Fraser the ultimate leading man. With a flashing smile, great comic timing and soaring voice he commanded the stage. Lesley Joseph relished her role. Patrick Clancy a powerhouse voice in both his parts. As no programmes were available I don't know the names of the cover/replacements in the other roles. They all were excellent. It was highly recommended to me and I highly recommend it to everyone.

The overall show was funny and satirical. Dragged out sexual undertones and hilarious references to modern cliches. The actors were incredibly great singers and dancers. There was always something great to look at, the staging was great and the special effects were magical. A great show of lights.

One of the funniest, silliest, slickest, best performed musicals I have EVER seen! The cast were amazing and totally committed to giving their audience the best night out - what a show! The songs that have been "added" for the stage version are fresh and brilliant! There were lovely hints of/homages to Gene Wilder during the evening. "Putting on the Ritz" was tremendous. Thanks for a wonderful show - I would see it again if I'm up in London and it's on somewhere, or back in Bristol if it comes here on tour.

Had a blast. We’re a family of six who know the movie off by heart ....all the gags and pratfalls were there and the principals took their parts really well. The songs were a great addition and this theatre is so atmospheric. We really loved it.

It's too funny to even convey! We chose this show for our anniversary entertainment and to see it on Friday 13th as we were married on that very day 17 years ago. If you know the Mel Brooks movie then old gags will have you cheering and new gags will have you belly roaring. The songs are devinely comedic, every phrase a clever construct of concise wit. The acting completely endears you to the whole production and of course the live orchestra is superlative. Go see it, its a couple of chuckle-filled hours well spent and a MUST if you've ever enjoyed any of Mel Broooks' films.

Young Frankenstein is a decent bit of evening entertainment, the production value is high and the talent is amazing, with some outstanding singing voices and great comedic timing. However, where the play failed for me was the script, which is walking a very fine line between mocking well-known tropes of the genre and simply exploiting them until the cows come home. It doesn't always pull off that balancing act very well. There are stereotypes aplenty and when they are not cleverly subverted, they just become tiresome, annoying and unsavoury. None of this is the actors' fault though, who were all sublime. Recommended for a few good laughs, but don't think about any of the lines or their implications for too long or your enjoyment of the play might suffer.

A great musical show, based on the Mel Brooks movie and very little to do with Mary Shelly's book. All the cast put in 1010%. Tons of bawdy fun. Pure enjoyable nonsense.

My son and I ever loved the movie Frankenstein Junior (that's how it is called in the italian version) and took the chance of being in London to watch the theatre play. When we found out it was a musical, we said: "Oh no, another musical!". Nothing to do with the extraboring act-a-little-between one song and the other! All the humour and gags of the movie are perfectly preserved thanks to the masterhood of the actors and still fresh as new. All characters are funny and stunningly good at singing. Special mention for Igor! Impressive cast and recitation.

From the minute the curtain went up, this madcap production had the audience howling with laughter! We were spellbound- old, young and everyone in between. Great production, which was faithful to the original film version. The cast was fantastic, especially the leads playing Young Frankenstein, Frau Blucher, Igor and the Monster. Loved the horses, too. Altogether, a great evening's entertainment, with plenty of laughter.

Excellent. Brilliant acting, singing and songs. It is hilarious and although there are some changes from the film it did not matter as it is so well done.
