Mrs Henderson Presents
Mrs Henderson Presents
Don’t miss the ‘joyous musical fun’ (The Times) of MRS HENDERSON PRESENTS, the hilarious five-star musical that the Daily Express is hailing as a ‘triumph’. Based on the much loved film that starred Dame Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins, this ‘unashamedly entertaining’ (Daily Mail) new musical has been acclaimed by the Times as ‘a winner’.
It’s London, 1937, and recently widowed eccentric, Laura Henderson, is looking for a way of spending her time and money. After acquiring and renovating the Windmill Theatre, she hires feisty impresario Vivian Van Damm to present a bill of non-stop variety acts. But as war looms something more is required to boost morale and box office... Mrs Henderson comes up with the idea of The Windmill Girls - glamorous young women posing as nude statues - and audiences flock!
With book and direction by the Tony Award-winning Terry Johnson (La Cage Aux Folles), choreography by Andrew Wright (Singin’ in the Rain, Guys and Dolls), lyrics by the multi-award-winning Don Black (Sunset Boulevard) and music by George Fenton and Simon Chamberlain, this extraordinary and heartwarming new production stars Olivier-winner Tracie Bennett (Les Misérables, End of the Rainbow, ITV’s Coronation Street), Olivier-nominated Ian Bartholomew (Into the Woods) and Olivier-nominated Emma Williams (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang).

This was a first class production and its a shame it closed this weekend. I'm writing this review in case it tours the UK in the near future and some of the same cast are involved . I enjoyed it so much that having seen it for the first time on the day before closure, I travelled back down to London the next day, at some considereable expense, to see its final performance. In a nutshell, this is a really good musical that contains plenty of humour and is a really good night out. Its a real shame the cast weren't rewarded with a longer stay in the west end. It has humour, it has a great soundtrack. It has everything you would want from a new musical. If it tours, make sure you go.

So much better than the reviews led us to believe. Great entertainment - fun but with fact that content is factual adds to the underlying serious issues of the time.

What an amazing show! Couldn't recommend it more. Had me laughing one minute and crying the next, as a performing arts student there is nothing more inspiring than watching such a talented cast! The theatre suited the production perfectly and the staff behind the bar and in the theatre itself were perfect addressing and resolving any situations, always with a smile and great costumer service.

What a fantastic show 'Mrs Henderson presents' is. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed yesterdays matinee's performance. There was superb singing by all the cast members and fantastic humour. Standout performances were given by Mr Van-Dam and Mrs Henderson. All in all a fantastic show and well worth going to see.

I was surprised by the moving story during the war and had a great time in the theatre. I expected some more old-fashioned, but the story was a brillant catching tale. - funny and serious. And very well directed and played !

Like 'The Curate's egg' the show was 'good in parts'. Unfortunately there's only one really good number 'If Mountains were easy to climb'. Nothing else hummable. And I couldn't make out much of a story. The back story of the non love affair with Eddie and resulting pregnancy took over despite having been a minor set up. The 'comic' nudged it along. But er not much happened to the characters. Mrs Henderson got a bit ill. Mr Van Damme lusted after the leading lady. But Er...it never went anywhere. Great cast though. With Iain Bartholomew outstanding.

Wow I loved this show. Made me laugh, made me cry AND it had great tap dancing and Tracie Bennett in it so how could you not love it! Beware though if you are offended by nudity, this is not for you. The prudes in the seats next to us left in the interval. Had they not seen the film?! Go quick because it finishes this week and you'll miss a real treat if you don't make it in time.

This is a most enjoyable show. It is funny, but sad in places and the singing and dancing is excellent. Unfortunately last night due to technical difficulties the show was stopped during the intermission. However, I have contacted the box office today and they have exchanged the ticket for next week. The show finishes next Saturday and is a must for avid theatre goers.

The music was very good and the cast brilliant, although risqué it was all done in the best possible taste. well worth going to see and so good not to hear continuous swearing. Saucy innuendo in a subtle way.

Having already seen the film I wasn't expecting this musical version to equal it but I was pleasantly surprised and I would say it surpassed it. All the lead actors were superb in the multi skills required for their roles - singing, dancing, comedic timing, emotional commitment - and the supporting cast were also highly talented individuals. Wonderful entertainment - excellent storyline, exciting choregraphy. This is life-enhancing theatre!

An outstanding new musical with a talented cast! Humour, sadness, pace, pauses and the beauty of the human body. Theatre showing art of real people and the braveness of actors and actresses on stage. Thrilling performances all round, especially from the powerful Emma Williams- go and see this before it closes!
