Les Miserables: The All-Star Staged Concert reviews
We booked in February this year to see an all star cast with Alfie Boe and Michael Ball however we did not see either of them. We did enjoy the performance but would not have bought tickets at that price if we had known they were not going to be in it.
Booked this when tickets came out on a night Alfie Bow, Michael Ball and Matt Lucas we’re all performing. Took our seats in the theatre on Friday 21st Nov. The performance started and none of the three were on stage. There was no announcement to say they were all ill. Complaints from all around us. Hundreds complaining afterwards. Really not acceptable. This should have been cancelled and refunds given.
Despite having four understudies/alternates it was still as amazing, to say it was a concert I thought the staging was brilliant and added to the event.
Went to see the show last evening. I loved it. The whole cast were very talented. I can't wait to go back and see it again
The cast where amazing However I’d book specifically to see Michael Ball and Alfie Boe. Michael was off due to illness and Alfie didn’t do Wednesday afternoons. So although the performances were brilliant we did leave feeling disappointed
Excellent
Wonderful voices but bitterly disappointed that Michael Ball did not appear. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Spectacular from start to finish! And I got to meet Matt Lucas before the show....
Having participated in several stage and film performances of the show, the presentation at The Gielgud surpassed all previous renditions. The audio- visual experience was just superb and Boe’s singing topped off an already excellent evening. Huge thanks to all involved!
A breathtaking evening's entertainment, thanks to each and every one of those involved with the production.
The concert was really enjoyable and it was performed by an excellent cast. The quality of music and singing was superb throughout. It was a joy from start to finish and it was equally enjoyable to watching the full stage production of Les Miserables. However, focussing on the singing made it easier to hear and follow the words and the music without the distraction of the action of the staged musical. John Owen Jones was outstanding!
An awesome show but very disappointed that neither Alfie Boe nor Michael Ball performed!! We paid a lot of money to feel cheated sadly. Matt Lucas was great.
Wow this was an incredible show with unforgettable performances from John Owen Jones, Earl Carpenter and Carrie Hope Fletcher to name just three! The initial disappointment of discovering that Michael Ball was sick was soon overcome with the outstanding Earl Carpenter more than filling his shoes. The intimacy of the venue added to the intensity and it was the first time I have ever witnessed a standing ovation mid show when John Owen Jones sang 'Bring him Home'. An evening I will never forget.
Fantastic cast with everyone putting in a fantastic performance I've seen the main show 6 or 7 times will be going again soon had a great evening with family
This is the best performance I have ever seen of Les Mis. The cast and voices were fautless I thoroughly enjoyed the show
Seen Les Mis before and thoroughly enjoyed it. When I saw the all star cast, notable Mr Alfie Bow I was sold, I just had to see and hear him. Well last night was the night, a day of excitement then the show, and Mr Bow, wow, I mean wow, totally blew me away, what a performance!! Worth every shiny penny/pound that o paid for my pair of tickets. Show great, theatre lovely, location central.
Superb staged version of the wonderful Les Mis. All of the cast were excellent.
As always interesting to see how this production is staged in a small theatre. Excelled at sound and light. Glad knew the story as could be confusing for first time viewers . Vocals great. Highly recommended
The show was utterly spellbinding! Absolutely fabulous in every way!!
What a way to celebrate! Totally amazing production!
Book tickets for a special birthday and what a treat. Everything about the evening was amazing from the lead members of the cast through to all of ensemble. Truly memorable and an evening to talk about for a very long time!
Fantastic production all round. Orchestra situated at rear of stage was well thought through .Lighting and special effects very good. The cast were so talented and brilliantly cast. A few tears were shed among the audience at the passion shown in the storyline. Don’t miss it !
Great show, amazing performances. Couldn't fault it. Especially loved the innkeeper (Matt Lucas) and his wife.
It was the first time my daughter and myself see Les Mis and words fail me. My favourite has always been Phantom of the Opera but I can tell you that this production of Les Mis is definitely a very good runner up in my books. Can't wait to see it again. Absolutely outstanding.
This was a 30th birthday present for my daughter. We cried, we laughed, it was amazing, the voices were great, the orchestra were fantastic. My daughter said the best present ever and brilliant memories. This show has memories for us as a family. My dad who died loved the show, so we took his photo with us. Thanks for a great show.
What a truly magnificent concert this was. Made my hairs stand up the whole way through. Terrific
As a fan of Les Mis this production was a treat. Wonderful voices lead by the amazing Alfie Boe and a fantastic orchestra. A music lover’s heaven!!!
The show was wonderful, from the quality of the singing to the orchestra which was brilliant, to the the way the show was staged. Having seen the show many times it has to be said that Matt Lucas was outstanding in the role of Theodore.
Sensational. Different from the show as didn't have the props but just as good (if you know the songs). Voices were fantastic, particularly John Owen-Jones as Jean Valjean and the Thenardiers were brilliant hamming it up.
Seen les mis many times and Matt Lucas is the best Thenadier by a country mile!
Everything about this show was fantastic and the cast deserved the standing ovation.
If you know Les Miserables then you know from the opening strains of the music you feel yourself totally absorbed, but this concert was something else! Wow Michael Ball was sensational the power of his voice took you away in fact every one was brilliant the songs were sung with such clear diction the simplicity of the set was visually stunning the lightning which I always think takes you to another realm created such drama it didn't matter that this was a concert it just enhanced it to a new level, & who could forget the orchestra on show and delivering every single time I am so pleased to have seen this concert a true festival of the senses, it left me with tears in my eyes, amazing if you get the chance to see it then grab it with both hands cos this will take you on the ride of your life
This show was amazing and emotional it's a must see
Magnificent! The show was even more moving than the full version I think because it was more intimate and the sung words were so clear. The orchestra was superb as were the lighting/guns etc.
Having seen Les Miserables 3 times, the first time starring Alfie Boe and Matt Lucas this was a must on my wedding anniversary. However was gutted when once the tickets were purchased it was announced that Alfie didn’t do the Wednesday matinee, should have been advertised at the out. Naughty advertising it as the celebrity version but not listing days in advance.
Loved the staging and the singing. Best version of the show we have seen!
Thoroughly enjoyed the concert staging of Les Mis this afternoon. All cast amazing and a brilliantly effective production.
Really enjoyed the show - even better than the first time. Great to see Michael and Matt reprise their roles.
Brilliant cast, brilliant show. Would highly recommend
Absolutely superb. The whole performance faultless. A very pleasurable evening !!!!!!
Omg it was fantastic, cannot praise highly enough. As expected, Alfie For and Michael Ball raised the rafters with their incredible voices and Matt Lucas was fabulous as the Innkeeper, but less expected, absolutely EVERY one else was equally as good, with the best and most powerful version I have ever seen ( and I have seen Les Mis many times).
Absolutely amazing, enjoyed every single second
Only needs one word to describe it. AWESOME
Excellent cast and faultless production
Would highly recommend
Amazing production. Cast excelled and atmosphere was terrific. Thoroughly enjoyed the production which concentrates on the songs but still contains the drama
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. Over the last 30yrs i've seen the show 25 times, my children have grown up on it. No more left to say.
Just amazing made even better by seeing Alfie Boe (who wasn’t supposed to be in this matinee) with Michael Ball. I loved it - well done to everybody - want to see it all over again.
The whole show was wonderful but disappointed Alfie Boe and Matt Lucas were not in the performance of Thursday 31st October apparently due to illness saying that Michael Ball and the rest of the cast were amazing tickets are expensive enough with a full cast as advertised it’s a bit like having a Sunday lunch without a Yorkshire Pudding!!
An amazing concert from beginning to end- singing out of this world- orchestra amazing! One of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Michael Ball was outstanding as were the rest of the cast.
