The Merry Wives of Windsor - RSC at the Barbican
The Merry Wives of Windsor - RSC at the Barbican
Down on his luck in the suburbs, Sir John Falstaff plans to hustle his way to a comfortable retirement by seducing the wives of two wealthy men. Unknown to him, it’s the women of Windsor who really pull the strings, orchestrating Falstaff’s comeuppance amidst a theatrical smorgasbord of petty rivalries, jealousies and over-inflated egos. For a fat Englishman, a Welshman and a Frenchman, the only way is Windsor...
Fiona Laird directs RSC Associate Artist David Troughton as Falstaff following his recent acclaimed performance in Titus Andronicus (2017).

a superb performance in modern dress with appropriate changes - wheelie-bin for laundry basket etc to avoid it jarring. .

We both loved the production, such a brilliant piece of Shakespearean comedy seamlessly performed. We were both aching from laughing!

A thoroughly enjoyable Shakespearean farce with a modern twist, not just in terms of the costumes and set design, but in the prose. The Merry Wives is not a play I was particularly knowledgeable about and the beginning was slow, setting up the comedic framework for the rest of the play. A great way to enjoy Christmas in London.

A joyous production - full of life and laughter! Imaginative melding of old and new with both set and costumes. David Troughton is superb - playing Falstaff as if in pantomime - perfect entertainment for the festive season.

An innovative and witty production that captured the fun and theatrics that Shakespeare intended. The lovely Barbivan theatre is one of the most comfortable in London. A diverse and mixed-age audience enhanced the spirit of fun

This is the best Shakespearean comedy that I have seen. Just so good. Don’t be shy, go whilst it’s still showing.
