Winner of 4 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, Come From Away has taken the West End by storm. Playing to nightly standing ovations at London’s Phoenix Theatre, Come From Away also continues sold-out, record-breaking engagements on Broadway, across the USA and in Canada.
This joyous new musical shares the incredible real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world that became grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives.
As uneasiness turned into trust and music soared into the night, gratitude grew into friendships and their stories would become a celebration of hope, humanity and unity.
Awarded the Tony® Award for Best Direction of a Musical, Christopher Ashley’s production guides audiences through a colourful and spirited cast of characters, brought to life by Tony® and Grammy® nominated writing team Irene Sankoff and David Hein.
"This musical gets everything right. Irresistible and inspiring.” - The Times
"This miraculous masterpiece is totally, soul-feedingly wonderful." - Timeout
This is potentially one of the BEST shows I have seen. The cast is incredible, the songs beautiful and the set perfect. Cannot recommend this enough.
A fantastic performance of a very moving story by a group of highly talented and versatile actors who created an electric atmosphere. They really deserved the standing ovation they got (and every performance as I understand) for their teamwork, excellent singing and acting as well as their energy and enthusiasm. A wonderful experience!!
The show was amazing. The cast and musicians perfectly captured those few days of bewilderment following the tragic events of 9/11. It highlights the kindness of the people of Gander and neighbouring towns to help thousands of stranded passengers. The music and lyrics are great. Equal measure hilarious and poignant. Beautiful storytelling!
Loved it, loved it loved it. Thought provoking, clever, joyful and a wonderful musical score!
I loved Come From Away so much that I went twice in a month. A great story that I knew nothing about, beautifully told. I laughed and cried — a lot! Highly recommend.
One of the best musicals in London- 100 minutes of pure delight We’re going back for more...
An excellent production giving a different perspective to the tragedy of 9/11. Extremely well choreographed, sung and performed. An uplifting look at human kindness.
The music, singing, story telling and dance were all outstanding. The cast convey extremely well the warmth and hand of friendship that the small Newfoundland community gave to the unexpected arrival of 7000 strangers affected by the grounding of plans due to the 9/11 attack. Would see it again in a heartbeat.
We didn’t know what to expect, but boy were we entertained from start to finish. The cast and musicians were fantastic and the ending was superb. Loved it.
This is a truly amazing play about a story we never knew happened! The whole thing is very slick and totally professional. It is sad in parts but very upbeat in others and the music is terrific. The whole thing is done in one part - no interval. A great show - you won't be disappointed!
Booked this on impulse without knowing much about it. It was really entertaining, fast moving and great content. 100 minutes without interval was actually ok during the matinee performance.
When I heard that Come From Away runs for 100 mins with no interval, I admit I was daunted. I needn’t have worried. Unlike the airline passengers stranded during the 9/11 emergency at remote Gander airport in Newfoundland, whose stories it features, this production flies along. The energy from the stage never lets up, propelled by the infectious rhythms and tight musicianship of the lively band. The talented, versatile cast move smoothly from roles as islanders faced with an influx of strangers to a varied panoply of perplexed, disorientated airline passengers from every continent, culture, language and religion. The minimal stage furniture transforms rapidly from diner, to aircraft interior, to school bus, to air traffic control centre with clever use of lighting and ensemble acting bringing each location to life. The stories of the passengers and islanders are woven together into a varied and colourful patchwork, in turn hilarious, moving, surprising and uplifting. Lives are changed, surprising friendships formed, wariness overcome, warmth extended. All too soon the band take centre stage for a final blast of infectious, toe tapping Newfoundland folk music and the rollercoaster ride is over. So far from being too long, like many of the stranded passengers, I was left wishing it would all go on longer.
Great show. Tells the story of what we didn’t know about 9/11. Very interesting and worth a watch. Finished at 9.30 so home in plenty of time for work next day.
Excellent show full or energy. A good story through difficult times.
EXCELLENT that sums it up.
Absolutely nothing I can fault here. Such a wonderful story with amazing music and a cast that has so much energy you can't help but tap your feet and get totally into every moment. It makes you remember that we humans can be so generous and kind to those less fortunate if we are just allowed to follow our hearts.
Musical with so much more true and harrowing events with much humour love and real life quotes. So much more than just a little town. The actors were amazing. The writer and director did an amazing job to keep account of all this true life events. Crying with tears of joy at the interpretation of this well known life event from this different perspective.
Superb! A wonderful, entertaining, absorbing show!
Heard it was good but never expected it to be as great as it was. Best thing I've seen for long time
Dynamic, engaging story and cast. Uplifting story that makes you laugh and brings tear. Music is outstanding. I would see again and encourage everyone to go.
This was fantastic from beginning to end. What a wonderful storyline and wonderful Irish music. We were fans of Once and if you liked that you would love this. We are already planning yo see it again!
What a great show..loved the music, the staging, the story..loved it all..would highly recommend..
One of the best written story lines I've ever seen. Acted amazingly. The impact is enormous. Every emotion. Funny, sad, scary, heart warming and massively humbling. Gives faith back in human nature when terror and chaos strikes. I can't say enough about the show. It's absolutely brilliant! Deserves awards for every purpose.
Amazing show. I’ve seen it twice, LOVED it both times.
Didn’t want it to end !! Timing was brilliant funny emotional and superb acting
Wonderful show Would see again.
They had me from the first note. I was captivated to the last minute. Highly recommended.
Outstanding performance by all. Its funny, emotional and uplifting. Would highly recommend it.
This is a show that brings you to tears from laughter and emotion. I loved it. When the last note was struck there was the most immediate, spontaneous ovation I have ever witnessed.
A wonderfully uplifting show about the immediate aftermath of 9/11. When the USA closed its airspace after the terror attacks, Gander in Newfoundland opened its arms and its doors to nearly 7000 passengers. The next five days went down in history and out of the tragedy a wonderful story emerged. Great music, fantastic songs an energetic cast and some superb acting and singing brought the tale to life, the true love story of Nick and Diane who met on a grounded plane and married, the fascinating life of US Airlines first female pilot Captain Beverley Bass, Kevin & Kevin! Beaulah and tragic Hannah whose despair at not being able to contact her brave fire fighter son was palpable. Lyrics are very clever, humourous touches throughout and a truly haunting song called the prayer, beautifully bringing together all faiths. 100 minutes straight through and I was genuinely sad at the end, I can’t wait to see it again!
Wasn't too sure what to expect, the show was recommended to me. Went with my daughter, we laughter and cried, and left feeling positive and happy. A wonderful production.
Great show, fascinating true story, loved the very clever setting, so effective with so few props and pieces on stage. Great energy, brilliant music, brilliant actors. I loved it!
Excellent show! Moving storyline with great actors! We loved every second of it!
What a fantastic story, told beautifully and performed magnificently. A great way to forget the outside world and remind ourselves of how wonderful humanity can be. Not often that we can laugh and cry in equal measure and come out feeling so uplifted.
Come From Away is such a good story of the kindness of people and the power a simple gesture of kindness can have. The story touches on the great things that came out of 9/11 but also some of the cruel realities of it. I'm always a proud Canadian but stories like Come From Away make my heart explode with pride. Just go see it.
Totally captivated! Emotional witty talented cast would go again
Loved this show. Music was very apt and emotional when appropriate. Human nature shines
This show was outstanding, the cast looked like they enjoyed every moment of their performance and really drew you in to the characters on play. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a good emotional but funny theatre experience
Heartwarmingly beautiful and very cleverly executed. Highly recommend going to see this touching and wonderful performance.
Loved this show from beginning to end. It’s happy, sad and ultimately joyous! So much to take in, I need to see it again. Absolutely recommend 🙂
Great fun. Good Choreography. Good acting. I enjoyed it hugely, but in row D it was too loud.
We didn’t know much about the true story that inspired this musical... it was a brilliant surprise! The show coughs us from the start to the end with so much rhythm, emotions, up lifting songs, real characters on stage. Truly beautiful!! For any age!! We loved it!!
Absolutely amazing loved all of it / uplifting hopeful and a real insight into another side of the affects of 9 11/ never really realised how far reaching and how many more people were indirectly affected by the terrorist attack. An amazing play & fantastic cast / just book and see for yourself
Excellent show in every respect. Educational in the story telling, I learned a lot. Extremely versatile cast, slick choreography and few props. Lots of physical theatre and the best show I have seen in recent years
I really can’t praise this show highly enough - it was more than fantastic. I laughed - I cried as I relived those terrible days surrounding 9/11 but I left with the feeling that despite the fact that our lives were never the same post 9/11 goodness and kindness of us humans will always shine through.
