What Is The Phantom Of The Opera About?

We have attended a performance of "Phantom" around once every year 5 years since it opened back in '88. We always enjoy the performances and this most recent visit (16th Feb 2019) was no exception. I heartily recommend it!
Spectacular production and great performances throughout the cast
The show was amazing,
Having missed opportunities to see this Lloyd- Webber masterpiece for years... I was so pleased with my wife to have made the visit to see The Phantom. Wonderful singing and dancing, brilliant stage effects and a dedicated group of musicians and technicians in the pit! I would recommend it to anyone. Terrific! ( just one negative point about the Her Majesty's Theatre.... It was stifling hot and no air or open doors made it very uncomfortable..... However, the superb performance made up for that.)
Show was fantastic. The Phantom role was superb as well as the other performers. The only downside was the photo policy in the hall. Before the music even finished ringing in the hall, the loud announcement blares in about not taking photos. The the ushers are instructed to monitor this. They explained its for copyright o the set. Sorry, this is silly. We know there is a chandelier. Its been running since 1986. the word is out. Its just not a good look for the production to keep people from taking photos for their memory and friends that they went to the show. in this day of social media, its just a silly policy, and took the fun out of being there, rather than letting the audience enjoy their time there. It was so annoying.
Wot a excellent show so powerful 5* show
A top class musical opera. Rated second only to Les Mis.
I’ve never been to the theatre before so I went in with an open mind . Can’t really put into words how I felt as two days later I’m still coming down from the high . I’m also looking forward to my next visit to see it again . Thank you all so much .
This was an impressive show. Lovelt music and the voices of the lead characters Christine and the Phantom were delightful. Great quality!
Hi, this is my 3rd viewing of phantom and it was a gift for a friend's special birthday that I returned. Fortunately for friend she was able to see the performance relatively clearly (we were at the highest point in the gallery. I was unfortunate to have a foriegn couple sit in front of me who had no idea of others around them and had their heads together, kissing each other, they were constantly moving which restricted my view so much that I closed my eyes and just listened to the music. At one point he put his coat over his lap so I dread to think what inappropriate behaviour was being performed. I know that these actions are out of your control, but it did spoil a wonderful day. Regards Lorna Bartlett
I just like to say my wife's been waiting a long time and really enjoyed it the only downside was the space of the chairs there wasn't enough space even people smaller than me was complaining about the space very uncomfortable and come put your knees or legs anyway
Came here with my 13 year old daughter and we both loved it! Great performers, and particularly the voice of Christine was wonderful.
Absolutely phenomenal. The music is breathtaking and the cast was absolutely perfect. I would recommend this to anyone without a second thought.
Such passion and drama even though it’s been running so long. Unbelievably fantastic
Great seats, fantastic cast, incredible voices
Fantastic show.Very impressive scenes.Nice songs.Highly enjoyable .
After wanting to go and hearing rave recommendations for years we finally went and both absolutely loved it. Fantastic production, beautiful music and haunting atmospheric experience. And we both have heads full of the music days afterwards, a must see!
I went with my mother and friends to watch the phantom of the opera and the show was spectacular along with the music and performers!!! However we sat in the back right balcony section and visibility was poorly. I really don’t think the seats we had should ever be Used as a ticketed seating area @her majesty’s theatre London!!
The Phantom of the opera is spectacular the staging is a marvel the actors are at the top of their game the music is spine chilling the theatre is a wonderful place to be and above all if you haven’t GO SEE IT.
We loved it! This is my favourite musical, but the first time watching it with our children (aged 7 and 9). They enjoyed it as much as I’d hoped and were mesmerised by the music and staging. A fabulous performance - never fails to deliver!
The singing was amazing and the whole cast were brilliant.. but that’s as far as I could go with the compliments. I didn’t leave with the wow factor at all. Just disappointed.
Mind completely blown. Absolutely a must see. Could have stayed and watched it all over again. They truly brought this show to life and you leave feeling emotionally drained. There were even times I noticed I wasn't even breathing as I was so completely absorbed. Bravo
World class performances from the actors in a world famous play. This show surpassed all expectations and more, breathtaking scenery and superb turnarounds between scenes, would definitely come to see again.
I weally enjoyed the evening watching the show l had waited a long time to see it as l live in the north and l am disabled so it was a great treat,
It was wonderful! Congratulations to all!
Lost for words. Absolutely amazing
Great show, brilliant music, not my first time But it is always mesmerising. Lloyd Webber is a genius and a legend.
An exceptional performance! We were very satisfied with the technical aspects as well as the performances of the actors! Great production!
I've always wanted to see this show ever since it opened so finally came to London and booked tickets for me and my son. Unfortunately I chose very badly in the Grand Circle at the top and to the side K3 & K4. Not only was half the stage obscured but the centre wasn't all in view either due to two tall people sat in front of us. We felt very disconnected from the performance as a result which lessened our enjoyment. If you are booking seats make sure you as central seats as are available and probably lower than Grand Circle so you feel enveloped in the atmosphere of this wonderful production.
Our daughters first musical on my 50th birthday and my wife’s first musical when she was 21 so it was great for her to come back and see it 29 years later.... brilliant, awesome and repeat...
I wasn't really familiar with the real story, just the songs really. So it was wonderful to watch it all being played out. Wonderful actors/singers/dancers/musicians. Loved it so much.
Despite GWR closing Paddington station we managed to get there "just". The singing, the special effects all top of their game. Want to see a first class show? then this is it.
What a memorable performance!!
We have seen Phantom a few times, last one at the Albert Hall for their 25th Anniversary, and while playing the cd recently I decided it was time to see it again so we booked for a birthday treat, we live in Dorset so it was lovely to visit London again.anyway, we were so thrilled with the show, as good as ever and noticed things we’d missed before, as we do every time! The whole cast were great but the two leads were unbelievable, such strong voices, how they manage to do that calibre of performance every night is incrediable, long may it continue
I enjoyed it very much! The performance was great and I had a good time!
Best experience ever
I have never watced anything similar in my life! Amazing voices, acting, costumes. Astonishing lights and settings. I will never forget it!
Great show ! Last saw the show 30years ago and still just as good.
Having visited London several times and finding the Phantom always a sell out I decided to book in advance to ensure tickets. I was not disappointed, absolutely stunning show.
Be aware if you book row Q and P stalls tickets that you might have a building pillar literally in front of your seat and have no option but to turn around so that you will see the play! The theatre play was amazing..after all it’s a classic!
Brought the tickets as a Christmas present for my husband. Absolutely suberb, fantastic scenery, wonderful costumes and the effects were excellent. The show had us completely mesmorized and had us near to tears in parts. Theatre at its best and a must see show!
The show was wonderful! Such talented performers and the singing was incredible.
Simply a wonderful experience. I’ve been many times and this never ceases to amaze me. The music is extraordinarily powerful, visual effects are mind boggling and it really is a fantastic experience all round.
