Everybody's Talking About Jamie

Inspired by a true story, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is the hit musical for today.

Jamie New is sixteen and lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in. Jamie is terrified about the future. He is going to be a sensation. Supported by his brilliant loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.

Layton Williams, Melissa Jacques, Sejal Keshwala and Sabrina Sandhu are joined by EastEnders’ star Rita Simons as Miss Hedge with Phil Nichol returning to play Hugo/Loco Chanelle. They lead a twenty-five strong company and a nine-piece band that will ‘sweep you away on a tide of mischief, warmth and exuberance’ (Financial Times).

With ‘songs that have the wow factor’ (The Times) by lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling, Dan Gillespie Sells, and ‘hilarious’ book and lyrics ‘with delightful punch’ (Whatsonstage), by writer Tom MacRae, this funny, fabulous, feel-good, musical sensation has been wowing audiences and critics alike.

This fizzing musical is a blast of fresh air, and what a joy to see a stageful of youngsters who look like swathes of modern Britain: young, poor, sassy, not to mention black, brown, white and, er, sparkly. For this is the story of a 16-year-old boy named Jamie New, with giraffe legs and a magnetic smile, whose career adviser at his rough school in Sheffield has a message.

  • The Telegraph

    Nov 23, 2017

"Feelgood musical that could become a cult classic... McCrea doesn’t have quite the showstopping voice you’d hope for in the lead, but he has bags of charisma, and only the most stony of hearted would fail to wish his character the happy – if somewhat confectedly feel-good – conclusion that he’s given."

These young actors will go on to better things. Diversity was shown in its true light, and showed by the language on display. Jamie's fathers attitude all too real in today's society regarding parental responsibility. If you wanted a serious show on today's moral issues, it would last for days and need constant substitutions of the cast. But yes......we thought it was great.
