The major new musical based on Kenneth Grahame’s much-loved classic opens at the London Palladium from June 2017.
Starring Rufus Hound as the amazing Mr Toad in a spectacular new production reuniting Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and Olivier Award-winning composer and lyricist George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
This riotous comedy follows the impulsive Mr Toad whose insatiable need for speed lands him in serious trouble. With his beloved home under threat from the notorious Chief Weasel and his gang of sinister Wild Wooders, Toad must attempt a daring escape leading to a series of misadventures and a heroic battle to recapture Toad Hall.
Featuring eye-poppingly beautiful design, exuberant choreography and a gloriously British score, The Wind in the Willows brings an explosion of anarchy, humour and heart to the world famous London Palladium.
Very funny good story
An excellent production. I took 4 children ranging in ages from 9-13. They all gained something from the performance and enjoyed it immensely. The music was excellent and very well put together. My only negative thoughts were the sub plots of Mrs Otter, seemed a little pointless and unnecessary and sometimes it felt like they could have done with a little more budget for staging etc. However, it was fun, engaging and I would willingly see it again! Ratty in particular was brilliant!
Dissapointed as we could not get our tickets changed for another day as I was admitted into hospital
Couldn't fault the production, our 9 yr old granddaughter loved it, as did we. A show for all ages.
What a wonderful production.Everyone was superb. Would go again to see it. Fantastic.
Was a fantastic musical, would highly recommend it, my two children aged 7 & 9yrs loved it.. such a shame it's finishing
This show was a joy from start to finish. The sound system is excellent and every word sung or spoken comes through loud and crystal clear (unlike some other theatres I could mention). Rufus Hound is a 'Tour de Force' as Mr Toad and the entire cast are not far behind. Would thoroughly recommend this show to anyone.
Absolutely amazing, can't stop talking about it. First class experience. Thank you.
Myself and my son could not praise the whole performance enough. It was fantastic from start to finish. We were smiling at the least and laughing at the most , aching faces by the end . The casting was brilliant , it was difficult to no who to watch as each member brought something to it individually!
The cast were magnificent. Rufus Hound and Gary Wilmot were excelled in their roles. Plenty of dancing and music with very tight choreography. Very professional production. Recommended for all ages.
The Show was entertaining, funny and extremely enjoyable. We were pleasantly surprised. It is great for all age groups not just young children.
Superb performance with great surprises. Certainly exceeded expectations even though we are nearly 80 !!!!
Great songs and spectacle. Really enjoyed it. Our 2 grandchildren aged 5 and a half were gripped all the way through.
This is such a vivacious, child-friendly, clever presentation of the book. Animals are characterized with a marvellous mixture of human clothing and animal ears, tails and in the case of the hedghogs, brilliant plastic prickles. The only animal not readily identifiable is the otter family;lilac and grey stripes seems an odd choice of colouring, with no differentiation between the chest and back, so despite the gently hypnotic dance sequence around the boat with Rattie and Molie at the beginning, it is not until Mrs Otter is introduced on her own that you really understand which water creature is being represented. Thereafter, Mrs Otter is one of the most delightful characters to whom the audience respond. Set designs, construction, stunning lighting and swift scene changes are outstanding, with whimsical perspective and curvature on Toad Hall especially suited to the 'over-the-top' persona of Toad, who is larger than life and gloriously costumed in green tones throughout. The band are excellent, with nothing played too loudly. Proper credit is given to them with great foot-tapping overtures and a feel-good play out at the end of the show. Anyone of the vintage of the original lorry and hedgehog sketches of the 1970s, look out for a quirky reference !! An entirely charming, energetic production with every performer, except the central figures and the two terrific children, playing several different roles. Were I living in London, rather than having to make a planned trip, I would go again, to see all the details I missed first time round, as well as the joyful participation in an example of truly imaginative theatre at its best. TAKE your CHILDREN if you can, or if you love the book, go anyway!!
Took my 4 year old who adores the 80s film version... what a treat we had! New songs, a fantastic and classic cast, thoughtful script to entertain adults and children alike and the spectacular ending made my little ones day! Go before it goes! My son said "I love that show and Mr Toad he wave to me! We see that show again please Mummy?"
Great superb show great cast especially rufus hound.great night had by all the family .
Loved the show . It put a smile on our faces. Great music . Costumes and scenery. Lovely to see lots of family's there . Shame the theatre was very empty.
Perfect for children. The actors were all very enthusiastic and energetic and my grandson couldn't sit still during the musical numbers.
Just loved it. It was a lot of fun to watch.
Excellent scenery amazing story line very close to the book story line. Booked tickets for my husband's birthday as he loved the book when he was younger (well over 60!) he loved it
Enjoyable by adults and children
This has had poor reviews from critics but we loved it! Great characters, Rufus Hound throws his all into being Mr Toad!!! Great voices, fantastic set. Good all round family entertainment, it's quirky, fun, loud, and all the kids in the audience loved it!! And so did the three adults in our party. It's a shame that it was only half full, although we were upgraded to better seats because of this so no complaints from us! Well worth a visit!!
Great show, grandchildren age 6&8 mesmerised. thanks
This was an exciting, action packed, colourful production from start to finish. The characters were well depicted and the story fitted in much of the charm of the book. The finale was terrific and very succesful in the theatre, but I won't reveal too much!
I took the children to see Wind in the Willows yesterday and am afraid we all found it rather bland. There really wasn't sufficient plot and story-line to engage the audience. Classic books like Wind in Willows and Beatrix Potter were beautifully illustrated with lots of description but they don't actually translate that well for a modern-day audience. I think it needed a beautiful set, costumes, more dialogue and depth of plot to make it successful and this just didn't work.
My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed Wind in the Willows. A very slick funny and polished performance
THE BEST SHOW I HAVE SEEN FOR A LONG TIME!
This show had me smiling the whole way through. Great cast - absolutely loved Simon Lipkin as Ratty and Craig Mather as Mole. Thought the music was fun and catchy, and the set is stunning. With all the troubles in the world right now, it was lovely to watch something so completely heartwarming and innocent for a change!
Really enjoyed this show - I listened to the soundtrack before hand but didn't appreciate how good it would be until I saw the live thing. My seat was upgraded (matinee Tuesday performance ) and had an amazing seat. A must see !
Very very good all parents need to go with their kid
A very polished, extravagant and exciting show with lots of fun and a brilliant cast. The music and lyrics were memorable and uplifting and the characters endearing.
This is without doubt NOT a West End Musical its at best a Christmas Panto and that's being kind. Terrible overacting, shouting and poor singing from most of the cast! Save your money and go to something else this is am dram on steroids.
I had the pleasure to see this production on Tuesday afternoon and despite a technical hitch that caused a slight delay in the second half ( but we where entertained by toad with a sing along) it is a great production for all ages.
When I first arrived outside the London Pavillion I was some-what apprehensive of what was in store for myself and two guests(all about 70 years of age). Coach loads of school children arriving in mass !!!!! How pleasantly we were surprised at the way in which they conducted themselves. This must be down to either the staff in charge of them "OR", the brilliant production, presentation and excitement of what unfolded during the afternoon to keep them mesmorised for the duration. Every aspect of the production could not be faulted. The choral, choreography, and musical efforts achieved were.............first class! My best wishes to all for the press presentation on Thursday. Sincerely Mike Britnell
Super production, great songs, and excellent cast, fun all the way through
I loved this show. First off it's a family show so there is lots of comedy and cheerful songs that kids and adults will love, but thrown in to the mix are a few beautiful numbers, some quirky little interludes and stuff for the grown ups. The cast seem to be having a ball with it, which the audience reflects. I cannot recommend this enough. See it if you can.
We watched it but thought it would have been better if they made them look more like animals instead of just putting tails on them. The cast were very talented though and I am very glad i've seen it.
Brilliant acting singing and dancing..Ratty was brilliant so was the dancer who was a little bit bigger then average...he looked like he was loving it tok...
I remember seeing the earlier adaptation at the National so this was always going to suffer in comparison. Rufus Hound really comes into his own in the 2nd half and the gang of weasels brilliantly led have the only decent songs. Badger miscast as far as I'm concerned. Nicely staged with a splendid finish, but the script and songs both lack sparkle.
Love it love it love it, great sets great songs fabulous varied entertainment and Ratty is amazing great acting you'll love it, not to be missed. A great family show but enjoyable for all ages I loved the hedgehogs.
Extremely good and varied stage sets. Great family show however there seemed to be a lot more adults than children so don't be put off! The songs and script were great, the hedgehog family song was one of my favourites. I would recommend this show as an enjoyable jape!
Great entertainment for all the family.
