This year London’s West End plays host to Shakespeare’s searing tragedy King Lear featuring an all-star cast.

A disturbing tale of a king’s descent into madness, King Lear tells the story of a tyrannical king who chooses to give bequests of his kingdom to only two of his three daughters. Lear’s decision, based on his daughters’ apparent adulation of him, leads to a devastating series of events that spare no one.

A keystone work in the canon of English literature, King Lear has been adapted for stage and screen by the world’s greatest directors and its many notable characters have been played by a stunning list of global superstars. This latest production is no different. Directed by Deborah Warner, internationally renowned for her interpretation of works by Shakespeare, and featuring a remarkable ensemble cast including double Academy Award-winner Glenda Jackson in the coveted role of King Lear, Jane Horrocks as Regan, Celia Imrie as Goneril, Morfydd Clark as Cordelia and Rhys Ifans as Fool, King Lear at London’s Old Vic promises to be an unforgettable production.
