This summer the West End’s Old Vic Theatre will host the world première of hilarious new musical Groundhog Day.

Based on the much-loved 1993 film of the same name starring Bill Murray, Groundhog Day tells the story of pessimistic TV weatherman Phil Connors who is sent to the backwater town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover their Groundhog Day event. However, things take an unexpected turn when Connors wakes up to discover he must relive the same day over and over again until he gets it ‘right’. But as each day plays out just like the one before, what exactly is it that he is getting wrong?

Award-winning writer and composer Tim Minchin (Matilda The Musical), choreographer Peter Darling and designer Rob Howell unite with the original screenwriter of Groundhog Day Danny Rubin to create this side-splitting new show. Starring Andy Karl (Jersey Boys, Wicked, Legally Blonde) in the role previously played by comic legend Bill Murray, and directed by Old Vic Artistic Director Matthew Warchus as part of his inaugural season at the celebrated London theatre, the stage adaptation of Groundhog Day promises to be as funny and as popular as its namesake film.

Excellent show, loved it. Andy Karl is so talented. The lyrics by Tim Minchum were brilliant, as always. Hope to see it again soon.

For fans of the original film, the new musical has a lot to live up to. Well don't worry. Whilst faithful to the original story it refreshes it enough to make it vibrant again. The music plus some clever stagecraft to deliver the tricky bits make it well worth seeing. You won't be disappointed.
