Canada’s incredible and incorrigible Cirque Alfonse arrive in London this summer with their sexy, audacious and altogether mad show: BARBU.
Impeccable beards, chiselled torsos and precision-perfect acrobatics come together in the awe-inspiring BARBU, a circus show that revels in re-writing the rules. Brought to you by the award-winning masterminds behind 2013’s smash hit TIMBER!, possibly the world’s only lumberjack circus show, BARBU premièred to roaring acclaim at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This weird and wonderful production features out-of-this-world physical skill, a belting soundtrack and some almighty chaos to astonish and amaze. With the amps thumping and the muscles flexing, BARBU is a hilarious, nail-biting adventure that is not to be missed.
BARBU can be seen at London Wonderground at the Southbank Centre this summer. Book your tickets today.
It was great show
This music & movement spectacular, performed by a Quebecois group, is a fascinating, original work! We only wished it could have been longer. Very varied and intriguing. Altogether excellent!
Barbu was so much fun, completely silly. Very talented acts with a cheeky, sexy feel to it. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Barbu is funny, very clever and very entertaining! Definitely go, you won't fail to like it.
Great show nice mix of music surreal interludes and great acrobatics
This show is great whether you're a pogonophile or not! Hilariously funny and so much fun!
Brilliant show from Cirque Alfonze. Funny, sexy, hot and unrelenting. The venue and its staff were also wonderful.
A unique night of music, acrobatics and laughter!
Funny, energetic, impressive and invigorating!
Hilarious, sexy, terrifying and electric.
Really good, a bit weird, thoroughly enjoyable
Montreal's Cirque Alfonse bring a fast-paced and bearded show to a great Southbank location. The action, visuals, dexterity, follicles and pace all contribute to a very enjoyable time. Good for a group activity with friends and only £20 pp! Bargain. Vive le Québec !
Amazing show and fantastic acrobatics and skills shown all round. Love the fact that they do not take themselves too seriously, involve the audience and made the evening such fun. Would recommend and am back next year!
Went to see Barbu last night, what a fantastic show. It's sexy, funny, crazy and the acrobatics are amazing. It's well worth seeing.
This is a magical show. I've been to see it twice because it's go good and the second time was as awesome as the first.
Fantastically fun show! Such an entertaining and inventive night, cheers to the wonderful performers for showing us so much of there talent and skill, beards and all!
Fantastic show, very exciting and funny and super impressive, you won't be dissapointed!! I would recommend to everyone!
Exciting and awesome in a great personal venue! What a buzz!
Great way to spend a Sunday Evening, Any evening would be a good evening to watch this fabulous, entertaining, exciting show. Highly recommended.
This show is unlike any other I have seen. As such, it takes a little while for the audience to 'get it' but once you do, you are transported to a realm where sillyness meets sexy and peculiarity meets pure genius. The performance, music and visuals were full of intrigue and excitement. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Absolutely fantastic show, amazing talented people The only negative I would give, is that the inside of the tent felt like we were sitting in a freezer for 1hr 30mins with the fan blowing on full
Blown away by the whole show. Music, performers, performance!! So good that I wanted to run away and join the circus immediately. Going back before it finishes its run. Can't recommend enough.
Wonderful, entertaining, cheeky spectacle!
If you're wondering whether to take kids I took two boys 12 and 15yrs despite the +16 advice. They both loved Barbu and thought the (brief) rude bits were hilarious and silly. The show and it's great live music was very sexy, energetic, engaging and genuinely acrobatic in a very intimate space. You must see Barbu before its too late!
For the first 15 minutes or so of Barbu, I was a little confused - the troupe, whilst costumed in a vaguely quirky way, including male corsets, and lots of vintage affectations such as stripes and braces, didn't appear nearly as salaciously undressed as all the marketing shots. The acts were competent and really impressive... including amazing human pyramid-style balancing acts, and a beautiful, floating performance inside a hoop from one of the two female acrobats. It all seemed so tame though! Suddenly - like a switch had been flipped, one of the male performers appeared ostensibly naked with a giant disco mirror ball covering his modesty and from that point on, it was all the more greasy, grimy, pervy and punkish! The humour and abstract elements all came to the fore, and it was much much better for it. There is a live trio of musicians, playing a combination of french language songs - some recognisable, others not - and it makes it all the more glorious. I think the show would benefit greatly if the tone of the latter part of the performance was consistent throughout... or if they more obviously played the sober start for its contrast, and increased the shock of the eventual reveals. That said, I would highly recommend... just don't judge it on the first 10-20 minutes: you do get what you came for - likely MUCH more than you expected - and it is a fantastically silly, yet astounding, spectacle.
Fantastic show and great acrobats and music!
Cheeky, stylish and madly exciting in every way!!
Booked a ticket without much research and was pleasantly surprised by how much fun we had. At less than 90 minutes with no interval, this show was rammed full of acts and stunts to keep you entertained. Skills on display were impressive, some great talents. Would recommend to anyone looking for an entertaining evening!
Devilishly creative, sexy and hilarious. Seriously impressive strength, fitness and agility. Best circus-themed show I've ever seen.
Love the music and of course the main Barbu! A divine sight - a human bearded disco ball throwing himself so gloriously and smoothly around and around the stage. Encore!!
This show is mighty! It starts off with a lot of teasing but the showmanship builds as it goes on. The audience was fairly dry at the start but any audience can't help but warm up as this show goes on, and we were on our feet at the end. Well worth the watch. Inspiring stuff.
Amazing performance, it was fantastic!!!
The show was fantastic! So entertaining!!!!
Incredible talent, funny, entertaining and very creative - simply brilliant, a must-see!!!
Loved it. A bit cheeky, a bit silly and quite intimate this show was a great find!
barbu was a great show . it was very funny yet the stunts and tricks had you on the edge of your seat i thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend.
Lots of beards and a few bottoms - what a funny and rather bizarre night! Astonishing acrobatics, surreal humor and a rather strange mentalist.
The show was full of fun and skill and the performers gave it their all. Would definitely recommend.
Went with my wife for our 11th wedding anniversary. We both loved the show. Brilliant adult fun
Highly Energizing , Electric , Entertainment ' and perfectly executed , flawless and highly amusing! Totally creative and imaginative. WOW WOW and WOW
Three of us went last night and loved this show. Breathtaking strength and skill from the performers with a very cheeky twinkle - definitely a must see.
Disappointingly inept apart from the skating at the beginning. Nothing sexy about it at all the worst production we have seen at the Southbank so far. I was nothing different or exciting about it most routines were much the same in fact decidedly boring so much so that we left just before the end. Can someone please tell us what the guy in the white was supposed to be doing with the head and the sword nobody laughed hardly anybody clapped it was terrible. We have seen some truly brilliant Productions at the Southbank there and that won't stop us from going again having read the reviews I don't know what show they saw but it wasn't the same as what we saw. Sorry not used to being disappointed with Southbank shows as the Venue is a great space.
OMG! I just booked this because it was on the southbank and i had guests visiting, and you cant go to the opera every day. This show is pure genious from the beginning to the end. Its like getting an energetic positive infusion of epic proportions jammed into 60 min. The acrobats combine impressive skill with inventive and contemporary coreography, All performed with a cheekiness and sense of humour which lifts it to unforeseen heights. I am so impressed, - the men are yummy, the girls are regal, and the mentalist has the most gorgeous legs that go on for days. The hamster is cute too. If you have anybody at all visiting from outer space (small greys, tall whites, reptilians etc) - there is no other show on this planet i would wish to represent the human race.
A wonderfully surprising evening, and a talented group bringing together a highly entertaining performance. Sheer fun, a few laughs, and truly a good night out. At the price (during the week) you would be mad not to go!
I went to this with zero knowledge or expectation and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. What a fantastic take on classic circus in a modern world. Laughing and amazed from start to finish. I would recommend it to everyone if you want to have a fantastically weird and different night!
Great stunts and very funny. A very enjoyable evening.
Metaphorically that is, will never forget and would like to see it again. Definitely would recommend to my friends, a circus recreated.
A must see!!! We went on a whim and had the best time ever. The entertainers were first class!
The entire show and the performers were amazing. Thank you for the experience
If you want to see a Cirque du Soleil quality show - don't buy the ticket. If you're wanting to see clean-cut gymnasts doing hair-free acrobatics - turn around now. If you don't want to be close to the stage - go sit at home by yourself. If you don't want to see some old dude's balls - well...... But if you want to see a totally entertaining cirque-cum-cabaret experience filled with hair (a lot of hair), amazing feats of strength and flexibility, some magic, some laughs, some music, odd head-scratching skills - plus an old man in a punch bag get knocked around and pied in the face by an audience member - Go. Here. Now. In my opinion, if you want to have a good time, this is the place to go. Spoiler alert - you WILL see balls.
