McQueen
McQueen
Adored by audiences and acclaimed by critics, the powerful and elegant new play McQueen transfers to London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket this August for a strictly limited run.
As Alexander McQueen labours away on his newest collection, an unknown girl sleeps in his garden, watching. Eventually, the girl breaks into McQueen’s home, convinced that by stealing one of the designer’s incredible creations she too will become something special. McQueen soon discovers the young Dahlia and together they embark on a dreamlike journey through London, finding beauty and searching for comfort.
Innovative, evocative and unforgettable, McQueen is a compelling new play by James Phillips (The Rubenstein Kiss, The White Whale, City Stories), a biopic of a troubled genius told as a fairy tale. Inspired by McQueen’s own designs, this technically adept production delves deep into the life of visionary designer Alexander McQueen, offering fresh insight into the art and life of a fashion icon. Featuring a chorus of dancers and starring Stephen Wight (Bluestone 42) as McQueen and Carly Bawden (My Fair Lady) as Dahlia, this assured production is not to be missed.

The show exceeded my expectations both in terms of performance and staging. Stephen Wight was superb and the whole production really got inside the head and imagination of Mcqueen. A must see for anyone who was captivated by Savage Beauty at the V and A.

I went to see the play by recommendation of my friend and took my daughter with me. She is a big fan of McQueen. She enjoyed his exhibition at V&A. We really enjoyed the play. It was beautifully done and moving. If you like his design, fashion or art, you will not be disappointed. The actors and the dancers were excellent. We enjoyed the music too.

Cast was amazing, music excellent and choreography and props were extraordinary. I really enjoyed this show! 5 stars from me and from my 2 friends that went with me! Macqueen was a genius no doubt but the actor who represents him in this play is no short of a genius himself... Stephen Wight... Amazing performance!!!

As an avid fan of Mcqueen's creativity and with an interest of his life, I have read up into some detail about McQueen. This play is a beautiful reflection into McQueen's mind and has the right balance of a good story line as well as subtle hints about his life story nicely incorporated into the show. The production was very refreshing and something new to the West End. It questions some very thought provoking ideas about how we spend our time left in life. Stephen Wight and Tracy Ann Oberman put on incredible performances and is a nice way to round of a celebration of McQueen's life and work this summer having coincided with the V&A Exhibition Savage Beauty. Would thoroughly recommend.
