Breakfast at Tiffany's at The Haymarket
Breakfast at Tiffany's at The Haymarket
Arriving on London’s West End this June, chart-topping pop sensation Pixie Lott stars in a brand new adaptation of Truman Capote’s adored masterwork Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Set in New York in 1943, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is the story of young writer “Fred” and enigmatic good-time girl Holly Golightly. Fred falls for the irresistible Holly but he doesn’t have a penny and Holly’s other suitors are men of wealth and status.
Adapted for the stage by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Richard Greenberg, this stylish new production returns the story to its original setting and gives it back its sharp edge. Set against the backdrop of the Second World War, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a compelling exploration of the darker side of human experience.
Directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, this wistful and sophisticated play will run for a strictly limited 12-week season at iconic London venue the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

We all really enjoyed the performances. They were earthy and real. A great night out for us all.

This was a very disappointing show considering its one of my favourite movies. The acting was poor and quite frankly the show was boring. I would not recommend. Save your money or go to see another show

The first half drew you in nicely and the acting was very good - The American drawl accents were a bit off-putting . The ending was confusing.

This play is an adaptation of the book - not the film. The filmmakers - I take it - recognised the limitations of the story (as a cinematic experience) and adapted it accordingly - tailoring it for the charm and talent of Audrey Hepburn. This play, however, restricts itself. There are no amusing/dramatic scenes or lines before the interval. I can't speak for the rest as we left at that point (feeling disappointed). Pixie Lott (I thought) was perfectly good and I hope she finds better material to work with. I also feel that the American accents (by a non-US cast) were invasive - not really like an American actor would be on stage, for example.

I had really high hopes for this show, but it was too long and not very good at holding my attention. Pixie was great at playing Holly, her accent was brilliant, and she played the character so well.

We followed the story and generally the acting was good but it was quite difficult to understand everything Pixie Lott was saying so we missed quite a lot of her dialogue which was a shame.

Quite a good performance and the stage sets were very clever. Some how I did not enjoy the show as much as I would have hoped but I cannot put my finger on why. Pixie was excellent and I think she deserved more from the audience at the end of the show. Some of the dialogue was difficult to hear partly due to the American accent and no mikes.

Acting was good, but the production made it difficult to follow the story in some places.

My husband and myself went to the show last night. We were really disappointed with the show. We thought it was going to be more signing and dancing. It was too 'american' for us, and found it very dreary. We actually left in the interval. Sorry!!

I really enjoyed this show, especially since my seat was upgraded when I arrived! I thought the singing was amazing and the acting was great! I think Fred's performance was my favourite. The sets and scene transitions were also very well done. The only thing I was disappointed with was that Pixie Lott's hair wasn't worn like the character on the poster once throughout the whole play. It still looked good I was just expecting it to more like the play's poster and movie version.

Great play and acting was superb, particularly the 2 stars. Also loved the cat! Nice touch. My only negative was the sound can be so loud at times, made me jump but I couldn't always hear exactly what the actors were saying with their American accents!

I love going to the Theatre as I could enjoy any show. Given Breakfast at Tiffany's is such an iconic film and as I adore Audrey Hepburn - I could not of been more excited to see this, so much so, that I bought the most expensive seats in order that we could have the best view. I became bored during the first half and hour and left extremely disappointed. The best part was the glass of wine in the interval. Wish I could get my money back and put it towards seeing the Bodyguard.

This was ok. Not as good as I was expecting. Felt slightly bored during the first half which wasn't a good sign. Can't really say what was missing- acting was good, Pixie Lott was good I thought, it just didn't keep my attention or excite me. I wouldn't see it again.

While Pixie Lott is outstanding as are all the cast in fairness I was a little confused as to what was going on at times. I haven't seen the film but I have read the book so I know what I should be watching and it left me a bit baffled, especially the ending. Not a great script in my view. But as mentioned above the actors are excellent especially Pixie Lott in the lead role, she is incredibly talented. Generally enjoyed it.

It was much better than I was expecting, having read some of the critics' reviews. All the cast were excellent - even the cat - and my daughter and I couldn't fault it.

My parents and I left at the interval. We thought life is too short to have to stay for the second part. The production was boring and there was very little music. Was very disappointing.

My wife and I adore both the film and novel and we're excited about this new adaptation. The stagecraft and lighting were excellent. Unfortunately the script played far too broad and the performances had no subtlety which led us to the impression that we were watching a pantomime. Much has been made of the poor accent work and Pixie Lott has been (somewhat unfairly) maligned for her performance. She is demonstrably not an actor but she was by no means the worst on the stage. Her singing was in fact excellent, just unfortunately, completely out of place. If one had no knowledge of the source material I could see that there may be some enjoyment to be had but to us it was akin to a microwave meal served in a Michelin star restaurant. Full disclosure, we did not return after intermission. It may have improved..

The beginning of the first part was disappointing. Couldn't understand the dialogue in the first scene - too shouty & fast talking. It improved over time & we really enjoyed the play in the second part. Felt you had to know the story otherwise you wouldn't have known what was going on, especially Holly's prison visits. This was vital info otherwise her arrest wouldn't have made much sense. But the acting was excellent & we did enjoy our evening. Loved the cat.

We went to the evening performance on the 4th August. I am a great fan of the film, and although I knew that Pixie Lott was making the role of Holly Golightly "her own", I felt that the whole show was a garbled mess. Pixie Lott has a lovely voice but her acting skills leave a bit to be desired. The rest of the cast came across as amateurs and for most of the time were impossible to hear. The story line was nothing like the film and hard to follow. Sadly, we will not be recommending the show to anyone else.

I expected a little more singing, and magic, Pixie and cast were stellar but the storyline was flat, as other reviews mention.

I am a big fan of Audrey Hepburn and Pixie Lott. Unfortunately my expectations were perhaps a bit too high. I am an avid theatre goer but I found this production dull and although Pixie worked really hard she could not make the show something it wasn't. It lost my attention in the first 30 minutes and sadly it never came back. Hopefully Pixie will not be put off by this and her next project will be worthy of her talentsl.

I watched this at a well attended matinee in the company of an audience clearly wanting to enjoy themselves; such a pity, then, there was nothing to react to. We sat in silence through an interminably long first act, enlivened only when they brought the cat on (and he looked drugged up to the eyeballs!). Things improved in Act Two where there is more action and less hectoring towards the audience. Pixie Lott in my opinion acts well and always looks great (in her 24 costume changes!) and there are a few entertaining cameos from other cast members. There are however just three songs, and while Moon River is unavoidable the others seem oddly chosen; the incidental music however is beautifully written. The show had an extensive provincial tour and several West End previews, so it seems strange that the producers haven't realized how much work still needs doing to it (a complete rewrite of Act One for a start). It's a lavish production and how it could possibly make a profit, even with full houses, in under a two month scheduled run, puzzles me.

My Wife and I went to the 3pm showing of this excellent show on 3rd of August. The Theatre Royal Haymarket was beautiful and a great setting for this iconic production. We both thoroughly enjoyed the whole event with both Matt Barber and Pixie Lott giving outstanding performances supported by a very strong and impressive cast. We highly recommend the show

Bought two tickets as part of my Wifes birthday present. We enjoyed the performance of all. Compared to say Lloyd Webbers musicals, ticket prices seemed less value for money unfortunately. If you enjoy the theatre you will enjoy this production.

Well all I can say is you get what you pay for. The seats were very uncomfortable, which more noticeable due to the poor performance of the show. We have been to many west end shows and this is the only one that I have left during the interval. A very disappointed customer, such a shame as it could of been so good.

I had read reviews from its tour around the country and seen it was not rated highly if at all but I went with hope and expectations as had loved watching pixie on strictly! We both agreed as did others walking out after 15 mins and ourselves after the first half that it was terrible . All actors were bad and it was a deadly dull lacking any charisma production. What a shame as a west end play!

I enjoyed the play and Fred was really wonderful...as were the supporting cast particularly Hollys agent. However I felt Pixie Lott was just not quite up to the leading role. It is a very demanding part as she is such a strange and unusual character so it is hard for any young person to really crack it . Her renditioning of Moom River was disappointing as she sang it in an extremely modern fashion....though her tone was beautiful. All in all an enjoyable afternoon but felt Holly was miscast.

We were very disappointed with Breakfast at Tiffanys . Pixie Lott did shine out though in a very boring version of the story, which never once took off or excited us. . We did like her 2 songs, there should have been more. Sadly we left in the interval as we weren't enjoying the show
