THE SONGS. THE SOUND. THE STORY.
Motown follows the story of Berry Gordy and the creation of Motown Records. The story begins on the evening of the 25th anniversary of the music records empire in 1983, with Berry reflecting upon his journey so far and career.
Berry recalls the times when he was a kid and dreamt of one day making people as happy and proud as his childhood hero, the boxer Joe Louis.
Having grown into a talented adult, inspired by his passion of music and with hopes of ending the racial division in the music industry, Berry borrowed $800 from his family, went from featherweight boxer to heavyweight music mogul, discovering and launching the careers of Diana Ross and the Supremes, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye and many more.
Playing at the Shaftesbury Theatre and featuring an eighteen-piece live orchestra, playing 50 Motown tracks including "My Girl", "Dancing In The Street", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", Motown The Musical is a musical sensation with real soul - Book your tickets today!
My wonderful boyfriend treated me to this show as a suprise for my birthday. The show was amazing, great actors/singers’ performances and we loved the renditions of all the timeless Motown songs. Young Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye were our particular favourites. A must see for all Motown fans.
I loved Motown the musical
My first ever experience of a show in London at the tender age of 54 and a bit! bought the tickets for my wife as a xmas present as i knew she would love it.i wasn't convinced and thought that, ye, it will be ok. WOW, was I wrong, this show is fantastic and had me hooked from start to finish, the songs were brilliant the artists were out of this world, the storyline was brilliant. I cannot begin to comprehend the hard work that EVERYONE involved in the show must put in each day. Ticket prices are cheap when you begin to think of all that hard work and effort. Make sure you see this show
The songs rejuvenated my memory causing movement in my legs that had been forgotten for years. A wonderfully structured show encompassing the historical happenings of the era. Excellent audience participation. I encourage all to go.
Music was great, and there were some unbelievable individual singers.
I went before Christmas and yesterday. It’s a great show. Smokey and Berry Gordy were great singers. Didn’t think Diana Ross was as good as the one before Christmas! Otherwise great tunes, beautiful costumes and good dancing. Stevie Wonder and the Jackson 5 are also my favourites!
Spectacular singing and dancing, could really feel the energy. Great show!
Shaftsbury theatre tight uncomfortable seats. Seemed to be 80% about Diana Ross. Disappointed not more Stevie, Smokey etc
The actors were brilliant, I loved how they interacted with the audience. The music was just loud enough, overall we had a great experience, can’t wait to visit again. Only facility related thing is that queues for toilets were extremely long!
Fantastic evening, amazing vocal s and great songs
Really enjoyed the story and the music of Motown the cast were all so talented. Dancing and singing excellent. Well done all. Especially loved the young Michael Jackson. Marvin Gay music took on a new meaning for me. Fabulous.
Lovely performance great to hear such fab tunes
Enjoyed the show but felt some of the singing was stilted
Was absolutely brilliant! Loved every song and just a great cast. Would definitely recommend to go watch this
Absolutely amazing show. I was blown away!! I would definitely recommend. Thank you!!
We VERY REALLY ENJOYED THE SHOW It brought back great memorise of your years passed The cast was great altough at times the backing was so loud it hampered the lead singer Overall a great show would recommend
Good seats, nice theatre and fast ticket collection. Staff were quick to stop me looking at my phone (not recording I might add) but perhaps should have concentrated on the people making so much noise next to us and spoiling the show. A real shame, I paid to hear the show not them!!!! Slow musical, not the best but enjoyable no less.
A GOOD NIGHT OUT FOR THE WIFE'S BIRTHDAY....
I have been to see Motown 3 times now the first time my brother send me and my husband for our first anniversary the 2nd time again was for our anniversary we book ourselfs the 3rd time was last night again for our wedding anniversary .we took friends with us last night they really enjoyed it.So much work has gone into it the singers were fantastic the acting was great couldn't find fault with any of it I will go again before it ends
Great story and singing was amazing
As a lover of mowtown music, this was an amazing musical. With humour and unbelievable music. It also showed just how hard it could be for certain people in the music business. A must for all musical fans
Would have liked to be dancing
What a fabulous show, enjoyed it start to finish. Would recommend to anyone to go see it.
Would have liked lots more songs
Had a great afternoon singing along and enjoying Motown the Musical. HIGHLY recommend.
Great show. Brilliant music and performances. Will appeal to all ages. I gave a standing ovation at the end.
More music less race related rants. Lots of prominent Motown stars left out this was more of the Diana Ross show. Really liked the Jackson 5 particularly little Michael Jackson star of the show. Marvin gay also excellent
Amazing show! Definitely recommend!
Thoroughly enjoyed by all the family young and old. Excellent performances of all your favourite Motown hits with humour and a thought provoking tale of where it all began and what went on behind the scenes. Although there are signs up telling you not to sing or dance you just cant help yourself!!
Would recommend to anyone who loves their music.
A great evening's entertainment celebrating a legendary soul music phenomenon.
Very disappointed. This was a poor tribute show. Choreography was amateur. The voices were good but everything else was below standard. Seemed the production was done on the cheap. The men’s clothes, wigs and make up were otrocious. Diana Ross was good and her costumes were glamorous. So were her wigs. I will never see a tribute show again. To try and replicate the artists of a bygone time is impossible. Best remember them by listening to their records. The theatre is not built for people who are tall and broad. Anyone over 5’ 10” will be very cramped and uncomfortable. We had the best seats in the Royal Circle. Sardines would be OK.
Great show & helpful stewards too.
Lovely to watch and great singing voices.
A fabulous show which will have your feet tapping from start to finish.
We had opted to collect tickets at the theatre. They were found and given to us promptly. There were many helpful and friendly staff who showed us to our seats. The show itself was amazing. Booking through box office was easy and I would use them again next time I go to see a show
Very entertaining producion within deep cultural Afro-American environment. Effectively a piece of musical history captured for posterity.
Absolutely fabulous show ...cast have fantastic voices and choreography brilliant. Good storytelling .
Motown the musical is a brilliant show, when I got to the theatre I was feeling a bit down, but this high energy show gave the lift I needed and left feeling great. Should be on prescription a real tonic.
The music just keeps coming and makes you want to dig out your vinyls and just dance! Brilliant show, brilliant cast and a brilliant night. Would 100% recommend it.
Loved the amount of music that was fitted in,its a shame it wasn't on for longer as I would have liked to see more of the artists like the Jackson 5 and stevie wonder but hey ho it would have gone on past midnight. It's well worth seeing and the staff were very professional Will try to go again Maria Whitton
Excellent show, the cast we're brilliant and the interaction with the audience was very good. Top night out.
Had a lovely evening. show lively and bright, enjoyed everything. Loved the end when we were all invited to get up and dance, wanted to do that whole way through. Wonderful singers.
Outstanding show the cast were fantastic the storyline was really good I would recommend anyone to go and see this show. Great value for money also it is in a lovely theatre.
Really enjoyed the energy of the cast, and learning more about the story/ journey of Motown, definitely recommend it.
