Billy Elliot The Musical
Billy Elliot The Musical
***Last Chance To See: The final performance of Billy Elliot will take place on 9 April 2016.***
Sympathetically adapted from the moving and funny film and brought to the West End in an Olivier Award-winning production, music by Elton John and choreography by Peter Darling have breathed new life into Lee Hall’s Billy Elliott.
The eleven-year-old Billy is a motherless miner’s son who discovers that he has a talent for ballet dancing. But, in order to achieve his dream of attending the Royal Ballet School and becoming a professional dancer, Billy must battle against financial impossibilities and familial and community prejudice.
Set against the backdrop of the 1984 miners’ strike, Billy Elliott is a stirringly commanding piece of theatre. The contrast between Billy’s promise and potential and the doomed efforts of the miners to protect their community is compelling.
Billy Elliott is propelled forward by its intelligent and inspired use of dance and music which manages to capture the conflict and the passion at the heart of this musical with incredible success. Rage, disappointment and triumph are expressed as physical action, and the performers fulfil their roles with grace, style and power supported by designer Ian McNeil’s sets which provide a forceful depiction of a community that is falling apart.

Booked Billy Elliott on line to see the show 22nd April 2016, I booked tickets on 19th November 2015, also booked flights at the same time from Malaga, Spain (where we now live) just to come see this show based on the full reviews! This was supposed to be a special birthday surprise for my wife, only to be sent an E;Mail on 11th December 2015 that the show would end prior to our booking. Admittedly I was offered the chance of a refund, however that wouldn't compensate me for the cost of the aborted flights from Spain nor the total disappointment of having to tell my wife that her special birthday present had been cancelled! I am so sad and sorry for my wife.

What a show, all I can say is one of the best I've seen & a shame it's going after eleven years. Sure to return one day but they do say nothing last forever, who knows. Anyway well worth the money.

My 12 year old daughter and I went to see Billy Elliot this week for the Easter half term and enjoyed it very much. Brilliant acting and dancing from all the cast - and especially "Billy" - who was superb!!! I wolf whistled a lot. A show with funny moments and sad moments... perfect!

We have seen it 4 times and every time we leave wanting more. Sadly it is closing in a week or so, so this was the last time for us. Hopefully it will come back in the future and not too long a wait. I also hope it does not come back revamped as it is perfect as it is. I would hate to see such a good show ruined. Stage, set, songs all perfect. Thanks for the show.

A wonderful show, great musical score, true young talent. Loved the way the two story lines were intertwined. Did not like the swearing, especially from young children. Disappointed with the view from our seats in grand circle , that was all what was available. But still very enjoyable .

We thought it an excellent show which we thoroughly enjoyed. We wish we had the energy the boy playing Billy Elliot had. He worked so hard both dancing and singing. We loved every moment and could have watched it for hours longer.

After more than 10 years at the Victoria Palace theatre, Billy Elliot is still a truly wonderful show. Its plot about a boy who discovers he can dance while his working class family struggles to survive through enforced Tory cuts is even more relevant than ever! Some of the accents are a bit ropy, but it is the songs, the choreography and the incredible dancing that make this such a special production. It's only on for a few more days. Go and see it!

I have seen many musicals but Billy Elliot is the most amazing one. It will make you laugh and cry and is great for people who are not keen on loads of singing as most of the action is centred on dance. The political theme may be lost on the young and overseas audience but shouldn't spoil the show. And you can always read up on the miners strike before you go!

'Billy Elliot' was very absorbing from the start. It captured the feelings of desperation during the miners' strike and showed why Billy's balletic ambitions seemed so out of place. The songs were good and the production excellent. Parts of it were very moving. The boy who played Billy was amazing. I'd love to know which of the 4 it was. I'd be very pleased if you could tell me please. I went to the 2.30pm performance on Tuesday 29th March.

Absolutely brilliant - I didn't want it to end. I love musical theatre and this has pipped Sunset Boulevard and Les Miserables as my favourite show. It was amazing.

Have seen the show a few times and am never disappointed with the range of emotions that the production promotes. Makes you laugh and cry; amazing performances and an outstanding Billy. So sad it's coming to an end (for now???) in London, everyone should see it whilst they can!

Was really looking forward to the show as I loved the film. The show was actually a lot better than the film I thought. I just loved it I think I was smiling the whole way through... when I wasn't crying! I want to see it again already. Its a show that anyone would enjoy the language is quite colourful so not suitable for small kiddies obviously.

I first saw Billy Elliot a few years ago when it first opened in the West End. It was fantastic then and I wanted to see it one final time before it closed. If anything, it has got better. It was more edgy, gritty and funny and had the ability to give you goosebumps one minute, and a lump in your throat the next. The only criticism I have is the Geordie accents needed some work (but as I am from the North East, I'm probably being picky).

Brilliant!! The young lad who played Billy did not disappoint, his dancing was wonderful and when the older Billy danced with him - mirrored - brought a lump to the throat, just fantastic.

WOW................. First time was Feb 2016 for me, talk about leaving it until the last minute. I was so amazed I went again last night and if I can get some more time free I'm going again. I cannot comment on past cast as I'm a newcomer but if the cast from 2016 are anything to go by then its been totally fabulous. I could write for hours on this production, but if I do, then you'll know as much as I do. Just stop what you're doing and get those tickets booked before it's too late.
