A View From The Bridge

A View from the Bridge is a tragic masterpiece. Taking its cues from Greek tragedy, Miller’s affecting play offers a tense and uncompromising look at the American dream. Now transferring to London’s West End, the Young Vic’s production of this modern classic has been hailed as a triumph by critics and audiences alike.

Set in Brooklyn, the play tells the story of longshoreman Eddie Carbone who lives with his wife and seventeen-year-old niece Catherine. When the family takes in two illegal immigrants, Eddie’s Sicilian cousins, Catherine falls for one of them and Eddie’s possessive love for her erupts.

Bursting free from the confines of naturalism, this acclaimed production offers a fresh and compelling re-telling of a play by one of America’s greatest writers. The Young Vic production of this stark and passionate tale will transfer to London’s Wyndham’s Theatre with most of its original cast, visionary director Ivo van Hove and designer Jan Versweyveld, whose bare stage and superbly crafted visual imagery lend this intense and gripping story further power.

Stage and screen actor Mark Strong (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Sherlock Holmes) will reprise his role as the destructive Eddie Carbone and Nicola Walker (Last Tango in Halifax, Spooks) will again play Eddie’s devoted wife Beatrice.

An incredible production of an extraordinary play, be warned, tickets to A View from the Bridge will be in short supply.

So glad I came up from Dorset to see this play. I was left drained but hugely satisfied. Mark Strong was magnificent.

Mark Strong is phenomenal in the lead role, the standout of the production. The set was a big surprise - sparse and yet somehow the play still works. The ending is made particularly powerful by something quite shocking that happens...

This Ivo Van Hove production is amazing, intense and superbly acted. Well worth a visit if you can catch it before the end of it's limited season at The Wyndham's. Cast and production are fantastic, and Mark Strong (as ever!) is pure class. An acting tour-de-force. By the way .. Remember to bring your tissues!
