The Railway Children
The Railway Children
E. Nesbit’s classic children’s tale tells the story of Bobbie, Phyllis and Peter who move with their mother to rural Yorkshire and take a house near a railroad.
A 1000-seat purpose-built stage has been constructed around a functioning railway line on which a sixty-tonne locomotive will come barrelling right into the venue.
Adapted for the stage (or rather, the railway station) by Mike Kenny, The Railway Children is a once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experience, an explosion of activity, excitement and poignant storytelling that will thrill and charm the entire family.
Shaun Williamson has joined the cast as Mr Perks, as the show celebrates its first anniversary at King’s Cross Theatre in London!

Very entertaining only one fault I went with my two granddaughters and as a gentleman sat in front of her she couldn't see so she stood up on the floor not on a seat and we were in the back row and one of the ushers came and told her to sit down even the people either side of us were in shock as they told me they went to see other shows and got back row seats so they could stand up if this happens. Please can you tell why you take this approach spoils a really lovely day. Thank you Nanny

As a family, we are regular theatre goer's, but this was something special. The theatre itself was unique and the staging, production and actors were all terrific. I would highly recommend this very 'magical' show for all the family.

Loved the whole show. Had no idea how the performance would work with half the audience sitting either side of the 'stage' but it just does. Very clever use of the stage and the story is true to the boo and film. Just loved how they did the paper chase through the tunnel - Brilliant! Would highly recommend.

We had the good fortune to win a prize and were upgraded to First Class, but in any event, we would have thoroughly enjoyed this interesting and well-presented show. I think it is suitable for people of all ages, as it can be understood at different levels. The children absolutely adored the steam train! It was so nice to see a really English show that did not rely on pop music or dancing, but told a story that was poignant, amusingly told and absorbing.

The set was spectacular, it really set the scene and kept changing throughout the play. The play kept true to the book and was performed very well. I would definitely recommend to go and see.

I was really impressed with the layout of the platforms and how the story was interpreted. All the actors portrayed their characters really well. Well worth going to see, especially seeing the actual steam train arriving. I would definately recommend this play to friends and family.

Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 7. The story was usually above the heads of the children but they really enjoyed the acting and the special effects. It's a very English entertainment and all the better for that. No dancing and pop music. Plenty of running about energetically. We liked it a lot.

Went with my 9 year old son and 5 year old daughter and we had the most fabulous time - no fidgeting in their seats. A show which will stay in our memories for a very long time.

Thoroughly entertaining. They teased out the appearance of the train most tantalisingly. Loved the 'waiting-room' dressing too.

My daughter and I loved the Railway Children. The theatre itself is very unique, we were wowed when an orginal, very steamy steam engine entered the stage! It is fabulous, not suitable for very young children, such a treat for my 8 year old!

This was a thoroughly entertaining show and my kids and I loved it. The stage setting is ingenious and the arrival of the steam train was great. My tip, the cheapest seats at the back and in the middle offer the best view as you can see the all of the action and you are still close to the action. 10/10.

We took our twin 6 year old girls who sat on the edge of their seats from the very beginning! They ( and the grown ups) were completely mesmerised, sound effects so realistic and when the train arrived, the word 'awesome' was shouted in excitement!

Our seats were upgraded to the front row (from the very back far side) so that was a lovely surprise! Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the show as did my 86 year old mother - in - law. A really excellent evening

Thise of you who remember the film will not be disapointed in this adapted stage show. Featuring a real full size steam engine the story is told by older actors as if they are remembering events in the past. The sets move around on wagon on the railway line so that the theatre is "in the round". The acting was superb and all the family loved the whole production.

Absolutely brilliant. A very enjoyable evening. Superb acting from everyone especially Phyllis who made us laugh. The staging was amazing and it's one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. It's was great interacting with some of the actors before the show. Extremely well done by all involved

This production and theater were very creative in moving the scenery. Our great seats were in the middle of the stage and the set was moved in and out in front of of us. And the train! It was fantastic. There were a number of school children the day we attended and I could tell the play held their attention, too, with all the movement. The actors and actresses did a wonderful job. The theater is set up so facial expressions are easily seen. Remarkable! Thank you to all for the hard work!

The staging was imaginative an interaction between players and the audience was well received. Whilst the idea of the 'children' telling the story retrospectively was an original concept, I wold have preferred to see younger players taking the parts.

The steam loco only came on twice for a short period of time. The theatre was freezing cold. Most of the performance only goes on at one end of the theatre. It could have been so much better.

Although its a good family show I wouldn't really class it as a west end must see show good acting throughout and good staging was disappointed at the use of a train not all that it was built up to not even a toot of a whistle!! We sat on platform one but as far as could tell not really a bad seats mixture of people there

We are huge railway children fans Thought the train scenes were magical The three children played their parts very well Perks could have been stronger the mother was ok but could have been more upmarket and less crying Overall we loved it Perhaps more music would have been good

We had previously only seen 'big box office' shows and did not know what to expect. We need not of worried the whole experience was brilliant from the very beginning on entering the old railway station themed 'refreshments' waiting area. The show effects and the closeness to the 'stage' was wonderful as was the arrival of the steam train - would highly recommend for all ages. Easy relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable show.

I took my 10 year old granddaughter as a halfterm treat, the show was non stop from the minute you are shown into the 'station' waiting room to the emotional end of the show ! The cast were equally amazing, even coming out into the audience at half time to sign autographs and chat. Great show, thoroughly recommend for all ages !
