After knocking out audiences on Broadway and receiving a raft of Tony and Olivier Awards (oh, and a Grammy for the soundtrack), The Book of Mormon has arrived at the West End.
Comedy duo Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the (slightly warped) brains behind the animated hit South Park, have joined forces again to pen this hilarious musical that manages to simultaneously be incredibly rude, potentially offensive and unexpectedly endearing.
The musical tells the story of two Salt Lake City Mormons sent as missionaries to Uganda. Hoping for a few baptisms and a couple of conversions they get instead some very harsh realities and a particularly unfriendly warlord. And, the darker things get, the funnier they get. This is very smart stuff, with lyrics that will have you weeping with laughter in the aisles and music by Avenue Q’s Robert Lopez that you’ll be humming in the shower for weeks. Targeting everything from religion to consumerism to musicals themselves, The Book of Mormon is a satirical tour de force.
Now calling London’s Prince of Wales Theatre home, The Book of Mormon’s staggering and well-deserved success make it a must-see. With tickets selling out fast, The Book of Mormon is set to make theatre history.
This was by far the most funniest play I have seen to date. A couple years back, I met some mormon missionaries and watching this play just reminded me of them so much. I cried with laughter so hard throughout and the musical numbers were amazing. I have had them stuck in my head for the past week! Definitely worth going to see x
I liked it. It was very rude !!
A great evening. Slick changes of tempo, costume, scenery, singing and acting. Humorous show yet at the same time thought provoking. Theatre staff v helpful and sufficient in number to keep theatre goers organised, moving, seated and served. Pre performance bag check hopeless.
Didn’t realise that it was a musical when I booked, however, enjoyed the songs and dance. Excellent singers and actors, great scenic changes. Be aware, the dialogue and songs are a bit rude. Not a bad show, but not as hilarious as the critics suggest.
The show was amazing from start to finish. A lot of laughs had and a very well performed show. 20/10
Very funny from the first second. Far moving. Very talented cast. For broad minded persons only. A great show.
It was so easy, at a great value, to purchase tickets directly from the theatre via this site. No huge fees like in the US! Terrific Orchestra seats for ~ $70 LGBs. This is a hilarious show, as long as you are open to raunchy words and actions. It’s all done tongue in cheek, I suppose the Mormons won’t appreciate it, but we thoroughly enjoyed it ( we’re Catholic). Excellent ensemble, the three leads are all outstanding! Pre show we bought wine at the theatre at about a third of the cost than what they charge in NY! Highly recommend this show; easy to find theatre in the heart of Piccadilly area; a few blocks from this Metro stop. Post show we enjoyed terrific pastries & specialty tea at nearby Grand Cafe Concerto.
What a brilliant show. It’s hilariously funny and unite rude. I have family members who became Mormons I could really see one of them in Elder Price!! Would happily go to see it again.
This is the funniest show I have ever seen - I laughed and laughed all the way through. Brilliant performances all round - I love all the songs. I took my daughter as a present as I had already seen it but I enjoyed it again second time around as much as the first. Go see it you won't regret it!
Excellent. Funny. Fantastic dancing. Great songs. Well acted characters.
Great show very very funny and creative. Excellent performers. Would highly recommend.
Considering I didn't know anything of the Mormons I certainly do know, and when my door bell rings I won't be answering it! From beginning to end, a superb cast deliver a hilarious view of the book of Mormon. It just is really bloody funny. Don't consider getting a ticket, buy one as you won't regret it. Do yourself a favour and have a giggle on behalf of those wonderful god sharing folk!
I've wanted to see this musical for years, and turns out it was worth the wait. The acoustics were formidable, acting was superb and the atmosphere was exquisite. The staff was helpful, too.
We all loved the show but mainly me
Amazing....very funny....lovely production
Absolutely hilarious and gripping. Even my bf who can't sit through theatre without figiting or getting bored was howling with laughter throughout it!
Hilarious! Cried my eyes out. And the songs will get stuck in your head.
I thought the reviews were a bit much, a show can’t be THAT great right? WRONG! I was laughing until I was crying! Amazing. Yes. Again.
It was very over the top. There were some laughs but not many. I left after intermission
My mother and I had an amazing time! We absolutely loved the performance and could have watched it again. The service of the theatre was wonderful! Due to an operation my mother is having to use crutches. The staff were very helpful which just added to such a great day! Thank you
Fabulous show, so funny. Brilliant
What a superb experience! Skilled actors, ironic comments, hilarious songs and great set! you won't regret this musical
So funny and music great too ..!
The Book of Mormon is so far one of the best musicals I have seen. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a nice night out . It is funny and witty and I would definitely watch it again. Absolutely brilliant!!!!
They've done something incredible! What a show - Could watch it over and over again - I'm a fan!
Brilliant- the acting, singing & dancing.
2nd time watching the show and it was still just as good, already want to go again!
Really great show, well worth seeing 5 stars Arrive early as que system needs to be looked at as bit stressful getting pre book tickets
As the title states, this show is clearly not going to please every single person who sees it, but if one has a somewhat twisted sense of humour, it will definitely entertain. To cite an example, my husband wasn't all that impressed, but I loved it (thus the 4-stars insted of 5). There's one bit that was really overused in it, but seemed to successfully get the audience riled up (I won't tell what that bit is, because I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen the show).
Fantastic show, the cast where amazing, would watch it again
What a hilarious music! Me and my partner were in hysterics from start to finish! The songs were brilliant, the characters were flawless, already looking to go again! You will not be disappointed if you see this musical...it is definitely a must see.
I've been to many musicals and plays but this one really stands out. I went in not knowing what to expect other than the fact that the South Park makers are involved and that alone got me excited. I honestly would say just go watch it without any spoilers.
Wrong in so many ways but absolutely fabulous. Songs and cast are outstanding. I laughed a lot and the issues raised are very relevant to today.
Sheer brilliance. Music, comedy and dancing at its very best! It’s in your face up front hilarity all the way! Best theatre evening I’ve ever had and would take a lot to beat!
Although our seats were in the circle, we had a good view. However, it was a very warm evening and there was no air conditioning (or it was not effective) which meant it was very hot in the theatre. The actual play was very good/very funny.
Unsophisticated, childish and crass. If I hadn't paid for two seats I would have left at the interval. Of course I thought it might get better. It didn't but happy to see that the actors have some regular employment . Very pleasant front of house staff.
I guess I was expecting more given the rave reviews. It is very risqué (which isn’t a problem for me) but I thought the humour would have worked better without the crassness... the play was not that funny! There are some catchy songs, and good sets though. But generally Disappointed
This is a very modern, light hearted, unique musical that you won't find anywhere else. We enjoyed the show and love the songs. The script was bravely written - do not go if you get offended quite easily though!
This show was hilariously funny. From beginning to end. Not very pc but great all the same. Would love to see it again.
Loved this so much. It was funny, brilliantly put together, and just a really good fun show to watch. Would definitely go again.
The show is absolutely amazing. Loved the acting as well as story. Funny and satiric at the same time. Great performance of the actors / actresses. Definitely worth going!
Brilliant from start to finish a breath of fresh air couldn't stop laughing. Not for the easy offended.
Pleasantly surprised by the performance on 12/7/19. Energetic cast, near perfect performance. The theatre did get quite warm.
Very entertaining provided you are broad minded! We really enjoyed the performance!
Very funny & catchy songs
Amazing show, cast, and energy. Pure happiness. One MUST watch this show!
